Summary of the objects of Dirty Girls: Dirty Girls has a humanitarian and environmental focus while creating employment and volunteer opportunities

for marginalised women, especially refugees, living in the United Kingdom. This always involves the upcycling of materials that would otherwise end up as landfill.

Main activities for charitable purposes: Dirty Girls is providing a space for refugee women to learn the skills and art of bag making for the purpose of future employment or self-employment and as a means of focused relaxation and enhancement of self-worth. The fabrics used have been diverted from landfill: the leftover fabric from costume making for film and TV productions. The bags made by women are given to donors, giving them the opportunity to raise awareness about people who have fled their homes and become refugees as well as highlighting an individual’s part in solutions for our environmental problems.

Activities:

During the months that Dirty Girls has been active in 2021, (delayed due to need to be Covid safe) a sewing studio has been set up and women have

participated in learning and developing their sewing and creative skills. Two tons of fabric has been saved from landfill, with about 300 kilos of that used for bag making in this period.
