All trustees give their time voluntarily and freely. No remuneration or expenses were paid in the year. Adapting to circumstance of continued lockdown, Sanskruti collaborated with other charitable organisations to be able to reach out to wider virtual audiences for the webinars conducted. - the charity’s organisational structure and any wider Criminal Records checks are carried out prior to the start of the - network with which the trusteeship. - charity works; - relationship with any related parties; **TAR** March **2012** 2 - trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them. ## **Section C Objectives and activities** **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** To advance the education of the public in the arts, culture and heritage of India and South Asia by conducting workshops and programmes primarily (and not exclusively) on the subject of classical and folk-dance forms, and training in the same. To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of physical and natural environment including water efficiency, water pollution et al by using performing arts displays. **TAR** March **2012** 3 Sanskruti Centre continued to organise a variety of events on key and compelling subjects for public awareness and benefit. Sanskruti has also collaborated with other charitable organisations to effectively reach wider audiences. The content of these events benefited several hundreds of attendees. From May 2022 to the date of submitting this report (i.e. April 2023), following events were organised for public consumption, knowledge acquisition and increased awareness. ## May 2022 ## **World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development** **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** Diplomats of four countries’ missions and several prominent members of the community from different parts of the UK, and from Germany have attended the event organised at the House of Lords. Hosted by Baroness Verma, former Under Secretary for International Development- who spoke on the significance of cultural diversity and the role of women, the event had interesting inputs from Ambassador Joakim K Kamere- Deputy High Commissioner, Kenya High Commission, Mrs Roshan KhanalDCM/Counsellor, Embassy of Nepal, Dr. Phil. Sahidi Bilan- University of Sunderland in London, Cllr. Sharad Kumar Jha, among others. Diplomats Ms Fathika Fayaz from the High Commission of the Maldives and Ms Thivanka Athuraliya from the High Commission of Sri Lanka represented their High Commissions. Attendees came from Coventry, Manchester, Norwich and Rugby. A variety of dances from different regions were presented on the occasion, demonstrating the positive role of performing arts on mutual respect, cooperation, and development. Sanskruti Centre has been lauded for the unique initiative as such events are key to facilitating the exchange of ideas, information, art, language and other aspects of culture among nations and their peoples. All the speakers and presenters were felicitated with shawls for their participation. Press coverage: Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence transcends through Art and Culture | Eshadoot July 2022 **Sanskruti-Veekshanam** Marking 75 years of Indian Independence, a vibrant showcase of art and culture was organised by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence. Titled Sanskruti-Veekshanam, the event had folk and tribal dances of 12 states and 1 Union Territory presented by about 40 performers creating a celebratory atmosphere in the fully packed auditorium of London’s Nehru Centre, making it one of its kind. Press coverage: Sanskruti-Veekshanam amazes audiences at Nehru Centre - Asian News from UK (asianlite.com) **TAR** March **2012** 4 November 2022 **UK Parliament Week and Remembrance Day** The UK Parliament Week was marked at the Portcullis House of the House of Commons, which included speeches on issues that matter to the community, issues to take action on or could make an impact on, cultural representations, and an interaction with the MP. The event also raised awareness about the UK Parliament Week among the attendees and the nationwide activities that could be undertaken under the purview of the same. Parliamentary host Bob Blackman MP outlined the work of the Parliament Houses and Select Committees. This was followed by a brief introduction about UK Parliament Week by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre. Tributes were paid to Her Majesty Queen in 18 different languages. Paediatrician Dr Madula spoke on how retired medical professionals with a wealth of knowledge can help build community centres offering measures for improving well-being and fitness, which can help address minor ailments and problems not needing hospital appointments. Young speakers outlined how they are inspired by the qualities and work of life peers. Young dancers presented a refreshing cultural perspective. Tributes to Armed Forces and soldiers were paid. The booklet containing the multi-lingual tributes to HM The Queen was released and distributed. Press coverage: UK Parliament Week organised at the House of Commons - Asian News from UK (asianlite.com) December 2022 **UTSAV- Celebration of Arts** A nationwide Dance and Music competition was organised for the under 20s category and 18 winners in six categories were presented mementos at an event organised at the Nehru Centre. The winners have also displayed their artistic acumen through their song, instrumental and dance renditions. Press coverage: Utsav – The Celebration hosted at London’s Nehru Centre - Asian News from UK (asianlite.com) February 2023 **Bhagavadajjukam** Bhagavadajjukam is more than 1000-year-old Sanskrit farce drama. The well attended and absorbing satirical play in the form of dance drama presented by Sanskruti Centre in collaboration with the Central Sanskrit University, India and Sanskrit @ St James, UK took place at the Nehru Centre and has hugely captivated the audiences. **TAR** March **2012** 5 Press coverage: - Bhagavadajjukam play captivates audiences at Nehru Centre... Volunteer help continues to be an invaluable contribution, in terms of time commitment and expertise, enabling us to satisfy our objectives meaningfully. The Trustees had four meetings in the twelve months’ period to discuss event arrangements and management. The events were mostly organised at the venues that have been allocated free of charge. The rest of the expenses were contributed and funded by the Trustees. Section D Achievements and performance **TAR** March **2012** 6 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** Through its activities and events, the charity continued to garner goodwill and appreciation from the community and the peers, which continues to be an intangible benefit. Sanskruti Centre could raise awareness on a variety of lesser seen and lesser-known art forms, has worked closely with other institutions in the pursuit of increasing awareness on the cultural heritage of India. Because the main objects of the charity are raising awareness on culture and heritage for public benefit, primarily on dances, the trustees are of the belief that the charity performed well in terms of outreach and cultural consumption. **TAR** March **2012** 7 **Section E Financial review** **Brief statement of the charity’s** **policy on reserves** No funding or contributions came through in this financial year. The trustees have absorbed the expenses incurred. The trustees intend to set-up donation process this year. The trustees believe that in view of immense good will garnered in the communities, more can be achieved gradually. The current financial year’s expenses have been absorbed by the trustees themselves, from their salaries of their day jobs. ## **Details of any funds materially** **in deficit** ## **Further financial review details (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about: - the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising); - how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity; The expenditure of **£ 4375** . **90** was primarily incurred towards web hosting and website maintenance for the whole year, hall hire for one event (the rest of the events were done at free venues), photos/videos of the events, travel expenses for meetings to request collaboration, trophies for the winners of the competitions and publishing of a booklet that included multilingual tributes to HM the Queen during UK Parliament Week. These expenses have been absorbed by the Trustees themselves, from the income of their employment. - investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted. ## **Section F Other optional information** ## **Future Plans** Trustees intend to work towards obtaining council funding, grants, Gift Aid and introduce associate membership subscriptions this year. Setting up voluntary donations is also in the pipeline.
