## **Objectives and activities**
## **The charity's objects**
To advance, improve, develop and maintain the public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.
## **The charity's main activities**
The charity organises and runs a community choir which is open for anyone to join. Rehearsals are held weekly and live performances are organised throughout the year, particularly to Care Homes, Day Care Centres and Independent Living Schemes.
## **Public benefit statement**
In setting our objectives and planning our activities our trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the alleviation of loneliness and social isolation.
## **Achievements and performance**
The choir undertook over 20 public performances and recitals throughout the year in a variety of different community settings including Independent living projects, church groups and other community support charities such as Age Concern and Dementia Care.
We also gave performances at local outside events including a village fete and a community festival.
The public performances by the choir are very well received by the clients who often join in with group singing and have commented that the songs lift their moods.
Not all members attend public performances but of those that do report that they thoroughly enjoy the events which boost their confidence and create a feeling of well being.
As the choir doesn't meet during July and August, two singing workshops were arranged using the services of a professional musical director. This activity's aim was to retain contact of members during the closed period and also to invite and recruit new members to the choir.
The choir also enjoys several social lunch gatherings during the closed summer season to retain contacts and friendships.
## **Financial review**
The net payments for the year were £905, all of which were unrestricted.
## **Reserves policy**
The charity's free reserves, at the year end were £4,172.
The charity does not have a reserves policy as there are no liabilities or commitments that cannot be stopped immediately if necessary.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **Basis of accounting**
The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis.
There has been no change to the accounting policies since last year.
No changes have been made to the accounts for previous years.
## **Taxation**
As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
