## **Objectives and activities**
## **The charity's objects**
To advance, improve, develop and maintain the public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.
## **The charity's main activities**
The charity organises and runs a community choir which is open for anyone to join. Rehearsals are held weekly and live performances are organised throughout the year, particularly to Care Homes, Day Care centres and Independent living schemes. Online performances are produced at regular intervals.
## **Public benefit statement**
In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the alleviation of loneliness and social isolation.
## **Achievements and performance**
The advent of lockdown came as a severe blow to the choir and in order to carry on the work that had been started in 2018 it was necessary to make the choir independent of the Senior Citizens Support Group. As an independent charity the choir could embark on a wider range of online activities, thus preventing a total disconnect with care homes and independent living schemes.
Even though the average age of the choir was in the mid seventies, the members took to online working and produced a Remembrance day concert that had a reach of 600. This was followed by a Christmas performance with a reach of 16,000. This online trend has continued throughout the year with a monthly reach of 20,000. A full financial assessment of the choir and its income and expenditure streams has been carried out. We have been successful in securing a capital grant to purchase audio and video equipment which will enable us to produce videos of performances “in house” and thus save substantially on professional fees.
The choir was affected by Covid in that all live performances had to be halted and subsequent income from donations for those performances ceased. This has been offset by an online membership drive and subsequent increase in fees.
The budget for 2021/22 gives the Trustees confidence that the choir can continue to be a viable charity and will be able to continue with its work to alleviate loneliness and social isolation.
## **Financial review**
The net receipts for the year were £2,329, all relating to unrestricted funds.
## **Reserves policy**
The charity's free reserves, excluding fixed assets, at the year end were £2,329.
The charity does not have a reserves policy as there are no liabilities or commitments that cannot be stopped immediately if necessary.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **Basis of accounting**
The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis.
These are the first accounts for the charity therefore there are no comparatives.
## **Taxation**
As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure imposed by the donor or through the terms of an appeal.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the accounts.
