## **Objectives and Activities, Achievements and Performance**
## The objects of the charity are:
The prevention or relief of poverty in Beira and/or other areas in Mozambique by providing: grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.
The organisation carries out its purposes by making grants to help individuals in need, either directly where the individuals need is verifiable by the trustees (for instance, providing individual medical expenses), or to trusted individuals or organisations who have demonstrated honesty and capability to manage grants for the good of the poor.
## Charitable activities in 2022
Each month a list of needs is created by the leader of the “Associacao Esperanca Aos Vulneravies” in Beira and those needs which can be funded are agreed. 1 John 3:17-18 Beira then sends the money. At the end of each month a report is received confirming how the funds were used, often providing photographs of the work, ensuring accountability.
Through the Association (Associacao Esperanca Aos Vulneravies) our charity helped
- around 30 of the poorest families with food and fuel.
- 10 students who are doing professional courses like nursing ,teaching ,medicine
- 10 who are doing technical courses like ,mechanics ,electronics ,construction
- we have around 40 whom we have helped in primary and secondary school. Some we help in part and the parents also help in part ,whilst others we cover most of the things.
Each month we are giving people chlorine and water containers to prevent cholera which is still in Mozambique.
During the year we built 2 houses, and repaired others. We built toilets for some houses who had none. We are helping some families who are homeless with money to pay monthly rentals
We help those who cannot afford to buy medication ,the association is helping and through the nurses who we are training helping those who cannot afford to hire a nurse to inject them at home, providing that service for free.
On environmental improvement, the Association have started planting acácia seeds rather than buying a big tree, to save cost.
The Association worked with a local potter to design and manufacture efficient cooking stoves which not only save the user money by needing less charcoal, but also reduce CO2 emissions. These cost under £3 each and are sold to those who can afford them or given freely to those who cannot. People are pleased about the efficiency of the improved stoves.
Since the Association is 100% funded by our charity, we began trying to futureproof the income of the Association. We donated the funds to buy and instal a carpentry machine and establish a carpentry business run by the Association. This generates a monthly income (and work) for the Association, with a regular contribution to the charitable activities of approximately 5% of the cost of the machine.
## Charitable spend overview
As we can see from the description above, some project activities provide subsistence support (food provision and medical expenses) and others are improving the future (Improved housing, water and sanitation, training courses and education, environmental, carpentry business). In 2022 over two thirds of the work was improving the future.

As the description and chart above show, activities that are funded are for the public benefit. The charity is run by volunteers and there are not charitable expenses in UK. The item labelled ‘wages and transport’ are the proportion allocated by our partner organisation in Beira, Associacao Esperanca Aos Vulneravies.

**Report to the Trustees of 1 John 3:17-18 BEIRA Charity number: 1191669 On accounts for** the year ended **31 December 2022**
**Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
