Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of the Municipal Kennel dogs in Sal, Cape Verde, and, in particular, to provide neutering to reduce the population of free roaming dogs and for care and treatment of such animals. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
Successful neutering campaigns continue bringing our total to over 3000 dogs neutered, and many cats, on the Island of Sal, thus naturally reducing the future population. Our Charity has organised these campaigns independently inviting fully qualified Vets from Italy and UK joined by local volunteers and workers. The dogs were micro chipped and treated for internal and external parasites. The Vets were kept very busy with a variety of surgeries including limb amputations. The charity has once again found homes for a considerable number of the rehoming dogs and puppies after neutering and micro chipping. Ongoing support and aftercare is offered to all rehomed dogs. In November 2024 the Charity located premises suitable to open on a regular basis as a walk in centre for all animals to be treated free of charge. This was a major step forward for us. The centre is leased on a yearly basis and we have a veterinary technician in attendance twice a week. We strive to offer all services free of charge including neutering. The dogs in the Municipal Kennels continue to be treated monthly for parasite prevention. |

Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The opening of our own walk in Veterinary Centre Our Charity has been our main achievement this year, providing regular treatments not only for the free roaming animals but also those owned by poor families that are unable to pay veterinary expenditure. The total of animals now neutered by our Charity is now in excess of 3000. The clinic also provides treatments for minor ailments and operations as well as regular anti-parasite treatment. We are seeing an increase in the public wanting to understand how to care for their pets and the younger generation keen to take part. This is a real positive for the future od animal Welfare on the Island of Sal. |
