## FUNERAL & BURIAL SUPPORT

Since its beginning, Al-Qiyas Welfare has been supporting families who have experienced the loss of a loved one by organising burial and funeral arrangements.

Once again this year, we have extended financial aid to families in need, providing essential packages that contain the necessary items including the shroud (kafan), required for burial according to Islamic tradition. These necessary provisions were provided at no cost to families facing hardship due to the loss of a loved one.

We believe in the importance of coming together as a community to support one another during times of loss and grief. It is our mission to ensure that families facing such challenging circumstances are not burdened with financial stress while grieving the loss of their loved ones. Through the generous contributions of our donors and volunteers, we have been able to extend a helping hand to those in need, standing by those who are going through difficult times.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to supporting families in need, offering assistance and care to bereaved families and easing their financial stresses during this difficult time.

We believe that by coming together and showing solidarity, we can make a positive impact in the lives of those who are struggling. At Al-Qiyas Welfare, we strive to be a beacon of hope and support for all community members during their toughest times.

## WATER HAND PUMPS DISTRICT RAJANPUR PAKISTAN

Poor sanitation facilities and limited access to safe drinking water continue to be significant challenges affecting the livelihoods of those living in poverty. Impoverished communities across Pakistan are in need of clean and safe water for drinking, cooking, and maintaining proper hygiene.

Over the last year and a half we started work on building Water Hand Pumps for impoverished communities in Pakistan.

Alhamdulillah, at the end of December 2024 we have installed a total of 42 Water Hand Pumps in different areas across District Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan.

Our goal is to install water hand pumps in villages, schools, and underprivileged communities that are most in need throughout Pakistan, ensuring everyone has access to clean and safe water.

JazakAllah Khair to all those who donated towards a Water Hand Pump either on behalf of themselves or their loved ones. May Allah accept their Sadaqah Jariyah, Ameen.

## MULLAGORI, KHYBER AGENCY KPK PAKISTAN

In November 2023, the Al-Qiyas Welfare team made a visit to Mullagori in the Khyber Agency District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

The visit focused on determining the most effective ways Al-Qiyas Welfare could assist the community. The community in Mullagori faces challenges in accessing safe and clean drinking water. Women and young girls have to make long daily trips up and down the mountains to fetch water in buckets and containers for their households. Our team met with members of the community to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and challenges and determine how best to support them.

During the visit, the Al-Qiyas Welfare team provided blankets for winter to the families in Mullagori (District Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan). These blankets were kindly donated to Al-Qiyas Welfare by British Airways, who also provided cargo free of charge from London, UK to Islamabad, Pakistan.

A special thank you to British Airways Community Investment Manager Mary Brew for her help in organising this and for her continuous support to Al-Qiyas Welfare.

Ladies, Mens and Childrens clothes and shoes collected from generous donors in the UK were handed over to the community leaders to be distributed to families in need in the area.

The team also took gifts including juice, biscuits, snacks and sweets for the children in Mullagori, Khyber Agency.

**AL-QIYAS WELFARE ANNUAL REPORT 2024**

## MASJID CONSTRUCTION

Mosques hold significant importance in the Islamic faith, functioning not just as a place of worship but also as a hub for the community and a centre for education where children learn to read. A masjid is at the heart of any muslim community, serving as a dedicated place to practice and share one’s faith and engage in educational programmes and other everyday services.

Many muslim communities across Asia in countries such as Pakistan do not have the option to practice their faith in a mosque due to overcrowding, poor construction or simply the distance from their homes and the length of the journey they would need to make in order to reach a masjid. Many communities do not have sufficient financial resources to establish a firm, long lasting structure.

This was the case for the community of Rajanpur in Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan. The existing masjid was small and in poor condition due to the area being heavily impacted by the recent floods that hit Pakistan at end of 2022.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” [Bukhari]

Alhamdulillah ,with the help of your generous donations, on the 13th September 2024, construction of Al-Qiyas Welfare's first Masjid was completed. Masjid Allah Bakhsh opened for Jummah prayers for the community of Rajanpur in Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan. Food was also provided to the community on the day of the Masjid opening. Jazakallah Khair to all those who donated generously and supported Al-Qiyas Welfare.

## PAKISTAN FLOODS SWAT KPK

In response to the devastating floods that hit Pakistan in 2022, the Al-Qiyas Welfare team travelled with aid to Kalam Valley in the Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan.

During a relief flight to Islamabad, Pakistan on September 25, 2023, the crew generously donated these items to Al-Qiyas Welfare for distribution to those in need.

Flood Relief Aid comprised of duvets, clothing, food packages, and medication to assist families who had lost their homes and possessions in the flood.

We greatly appreciate the ongoing support from the British Airways Community Investment team towards AlQiyas Welfare.

Duvets and food packs containing a month's supply of essential items were bought from local sources in Pakistan to support families in need in the Kalam Valley.

Clothing and footwear for women, men, and children were donated by the generous supporters of Al-Qiyas Welfare in the UK.

Thanks to the British Airways Community Team, our trustees could transport these kind donations of clothes and shoes to Pakistan as cargo at no cost.

A heartfelt appreciation goes out to the British Airways cabin crew for their dedicated efforts in collecting clothes and shoes to aid those impacted by floods.

## RAMADAN 2024

Food insecurity continues to pose a significant challenge for families across the world. Many families struggle to cope in their daily life, unsure about where their next meal will come from. In response to this, charitable organisations play a crucial role in extending support to families in need.

Al-Qiyas Welfare provides food packs throughout the year to daily wage earners and low-income, vulnerable families experiencing financial hardships. These food parcels are carefully curated to contain a variety of staple food items that are essential for sustaining a family for up to a month. Each pack consists of substantial quantities of rice, flour, lentils, oil, tea, sugar and more, all purchased locally to support the community.

Like previous years, in the Islamic month of Ramadan, food packs were provided to poor and needy families to ensure that families did not go hungry and had nutritious food to break their fasts with at the end of each day without worry.

The team made certain that your generous donations went to those who were in need and truly deserving, and worked tirelessly to make sure the food packs reached these families in time for Ramadan. Equally, the team dedicated significant effort to ensure all Zakat al Fitr (Fitrana) donations and Eid ul-Fitr food packs were distributed to families in need before the end of Ramadan and Eid.

By working together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are struggling to cope with the challenges of daily life. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact and look forward to continuing our efforts to support those in need during Ramadan and beyond.

**AL-QIYAS WELFARE ANNUAL REPORT 2024**

## QURBANI 2024

Qurbani, meaning ‘sacrifice’ refers to the important Islamic practice of sacrificing a livestock animal during the festival of Eid al-Adha.

Each year Al-Qiyas Welfare arranges Qurbani for needy and deserving families in Pakistan and Alhamdulillah with each passing year our Qurbani project grows. This year again a higher number of animals was purchased compared to previous years.

This years Qurbani project involved the distribution of meat from healthy animals including a camel, cows and goats. In total in the three days of Eid al-Adha 2024 Al-Qiyas Welfare offered the Qurbani sacrifice of 6 cows, 1 camel and two goats. With your generous contributions, we successfully distributed Qurbani meat to hundreds of underprivileged families in Pakistan.

A huge thank you to everyone who participates in the Qurbani project with Al-Qiyas Welfare each year, and an extra special appreciation to our committed team of volunteers for their continuous hard work. We appreciate and cherish your support and generosity. Your belief in our work has made a meaningful difference in many lives.

You entrust Al-Qiyas Welfare with carrying out your Qurbani according to the Sunnah, and we proudly fulfil this responsibility.

Following Eid al-Adha, portions of Qurbani meat were cooked with rice and served as a warm, comforting meal to families experiencing difficulties and facing hardship under poor living conditions.
