We exist to encourage young adults to find hope and faith in Jesus. ## **Changes in Trustees & Team** This year we appointed Mrs Storm Burton to oversee our Safeguarding training and policies and Mr Steve Jenkins resigned from his role as a trustee following stepping back as a local pastor. Our young adult leadership team running the events has also changed this year. We had a number of young adults moving away from the area so we’ve introduced a number of younger members to aid their growth and experience and expand the team. ## **Main Activities:** Worship & Teaching events, community gatherings & retreats ## **Saturday nights, our main gatherings with Worship & Teaching:** We continued these until July 2023 and after prayer and many conversations including a survey we decided to host fewer events, but plan and execute them well. We found once young adults connected with the Awaken community they often make friendships and go to a church from there they create their own events. So we don’t need to host all the social events, this can be largely organic. We found there are lots of other events going on in the area so we can signpost young adults to these rather than run in competition to the other events. ## **Community Gatherings:** We’ve continued to gather Guys and Girls through the year and these have been well attended. We also attended local events such as the bonfire & fireworks night at Lyme Regis etc. ## **Retreats** Over the past year we’ve again partnered with Wildside Experience on the Blackdown Hills, providing a retreat camp. This Summer we organised one camp with around 40 young adults attending. We also invited Simon Taylor a local Church leader to speak. ## **Summary of Achievements:** ## Over the last year: There have been a number of young adults wanting to explore faith and we’ve promoted local church Alpha courses. From Alpha we’ve seen around 10 young adults want to follow Jesus. To engage young adults in Somerset we have held a variety of different events such as: - January 2024 we hosted an event called RESET. We had visiting speakers and worship bands and had over 100 young adults attend this event, we are hoping to run this event in January 2025. - We’ve continued to partnering with the local House of Prayer; helping host and support large prayer gatherings and Gospel Christmas events (this sold out with over 850 people). We are also involved in the Easter Day of prayer. - Christmas Ceilidh event at Trull community centre, 50-60 young adults attended, with lots of new faces. - Easter Walk - We again took around 30 young adults to David' Tent which is a 72 hour worship event in Sussex in the Summer. - Other community groups have formed this year including a Netball and a Football group, they take place every other week. ## **Governance:** The Trustees are aware of the Charity Commission's Guidance on public benefit and are satisfied that the above activities undertaken by Awaken meet the public benefit requirement for charitable status. All are Trustees are involved with other local charitable organisations and are committed to the local church. The Trustees also regularly meet with local church leaders within Somerset. ||**AWAKEN**
