We exist to encourage young adults to find hope and faith in Jesus. ## **Main Activities:** Worship & Teaching nights, community gatherings & retreats ## **Saturday nights, our main gatherings with Worship & Teaching:** Following COVID and the formation and on-going mentoring of a new team of volunteers, there has been regular gatherings on the last Saturday of every month. This is now an established event with guest speakers from churches and ministries across the region. Awaken engages with around 100 young adults regularly from a range of Churches across Somerset and beyond. These monthly nights have proved to be very fruitful for new people moving or returning to the area to connect with young adult Christians. It is also a place many young adults with no faith background have attended, it’s perfect for many who are curious about exploring faith. Once again hosted in January we hosted a team of 10 from the USA from Carry the Love. We planned with another local charity Taunton Youth for Christ. ## **Community Gatherings:** We’ve found gathering as a men’s group and women's group very fruitful, this takes place most months with some activities (wreath making, pottery, BBQ etc) and teaching. These usually take place on a week night. ## **Retreats** Over the past year we have partnered with Wildside Experience on the Blackdown Hills, providing a retreat camp. Last Summer we organised one camp with around 30 young adults attending. We also invited local leaders to come and minister to young adults. ## **Summary of Achievements:** Over the last year: We've seen increased connections with Churches and championed new young adult communities springing up in Yeovil, Clevedon, Bath and Barnstaple. We’ve invited and hosted some of these teams to lead worship at our Awaken gatherings over this past year. We’ve continued to see many young adults coming to our events and encountering Jesus. The team and trustees connect where possible to meet with young adults and help those in the Awaken community find a home church, sign post to Alpha Courses and encourage them in their faith. To engage young adults in Somerset we have held a variety of different events such as: - Partnering with the local House of Prayer; helping host and support large prayer gatherings and Gospel Christmas events. - Christmas event at the Collar Factory with 60 young adults attending - Easter Walk - We took around 30 young adults to David' Tent which is a 72 hour worship event in Sussex in the Summer. ## **Governance:** The Trustees are aware of the Charity Commission's Guidance on public benefit and are satisfied that the above activities undertaken by Awaken meet the public benefit requirement for charitable status. All are Trustees are involved with other local charitable organisations and are committed to the local church.
