GYM OVERVIEW
The fox amateur boxing club was founded and set up in 1978 by Jimmy Lewis and since then has had several different locations in Greater Manchester now being based in Oldham. The club is run by Dominic and Charlie coaches/trustees, the club obtained it’s charity status in 2020. The gym is based in a socially deprived area with high rates of unemployment and criminal activities so is important that we can provide a wide range of funded classes to suit all needs.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The objectives of the charity are primarily focused for the benefit of the inhabitants of Oldham, and the surrounding areas of North Manchester.
The objectives of the charity are:
a) the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities and opportunities for amateur boxing and other activities capable of improving physical health.
b) the provision of facilities for amateur boxing in particular but not exclusively using boxing and its training and techniques as a means of improving health and fitness and encouraging people to make healthy life choices
c) to act as a resource for people living in the area by providing advice and assistance, and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities.
The aim of this is to advance in life and help young people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals. There are additional aims to advance education, relieve unemployment and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
The charity has provided boxing training for adults and children, as well as the provision of travel to competitions. The charity has also the use of the facilities for fitness training for groups from local schools, as well as for children and young people who are not in education or training. The charity has provided support for individuals with the provision of equipment, clothing and financial support to aid in their education or training. The charity has also provided meals for participants of it’s boxing sessions. Sessions have been delivered to the local community free of charge.
We offer a wide selection of funded and subsidised classes for a diverse range of people. Some of the classes we offer include-
-

Organisational structure
The charity is governed by the trustees who meet regularly throughout the year. The trustees have been selected for their experience and knowledge with regards the boxing club and within the surrounding community. All decisions are made by the trustees at their meetings. In planning the activities for the year the trustees have kept in mind the Charity Commissions guidelines on public benefit and the objectives of the Charity.
Financial Review
The charity has received its income from a variety of donations, funding from other charities and local community organisations, subscriptions and use of facilities totalling £21083.29. Income in 2022-23 was £44253)
Although no restricted funding has been received in this financial year £3248 has been carried forward from the 2022-2023 year and has been used for funded sessions and staff costs in the 20232024 year. This was used to deliver sessions to vulnerable adults in the community. Accountancy fees of £768 were deducted in the 2023-24 year but attributed to the 2022-23 year for services delivered in that year.
Trustee (Anthony Crolla) paid only for services delivering coaching sessions to schools and funded classes.
Reserves policy
The trustees have reviewed the reserves of the charity and have concluded that to allow the charity to be managed efficiently and to continue its current activities, unrestricted fund reserves should be not less than 6 months anticipated expenditure. On this basis the current requirement is £10,000 at 30 September 2024. Free reserves at 30 September 2023 amounted to £15,745, which the trustees consider is a satisfactory level.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.
