Management
VCOD Marching Band is run on a weekly basis by the Bandmaster, assisted by the musical director and senior instructors.
The band is governed by a management committee / trustees. The management committee / trustees currently consist of 5 members with connections to the band and the Bandmaster.
All management / trustees can be elected on an annual basis and are eligible for reelection.
The Bandmaster to be elected on a tri annual bases and is eligible for re-election.
Objectives and Activities
At all times VCOD maintain the highest possible standards of musical and visual presentation, in order to promote and enhance the public image of the band. To develop the musical and other relevant skills of the members by encouraging individuals to reach their full potential within the band.
We strive towards equal opportunities. No member, potential member or guest shall receive an unfair or less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, race, colour, creed, nationality, ethnic origin, age, disability, religious beliefs and activity, appearance, political affiliation, and sexual orientation.
Conduct the finances of the band on a non-profit making basis, generating sufficient income from performances and members subscriptions, as to meet operating costs of travel expenses and make provisions for future purchases, repair and replacement of band equipment.
Achievements and Performance
With the unfortunate situation of Covid 19, our 2021 season has been very limited in performances and weekly practices, due to the government guidelines. We did management to return to weekly practice during the summer season, but sadly the local carnival season was cancelled. We held a summer social BBQ for band members and family, along with a performance through our local town of Cowes. We were also lucky to be invited to support the Earl Mountbatten Hospice at
the yearly Walk the Wight Fundraising event and performed at a couple of Christmas Charity events.
The Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade & Service took place, which we were as always very honoured to be part of.
Our yearly presentation evening was very well supported, with a mixture of music played and well-deserved awards presented to members.
Financial Review
Raising money during our 2021 season was very difficult with the Covid restrictions in place, majority of the local carnivals, fates/fayres, charity events to which we would perform at were unfortunately not scheduled to take place.
As the restrictions were lifted at the latter part of the year, we were lucky to support a couple of charity events, in return for small donations.
Our main fundraising event for the 2021 season, was managing Car parking at Wolverton Manor Garden Fair. This involves as many band members as possible to allocate a couple of hours each over the weekend to help direct the traffic and parking into and out of the event, in return donations from the public as a thank you are donated to the band. The amount raised was £1,097.00 along with a further donation from the events organisers of £250.00.
Total Income from 23 Sept 2020 – 31 Dec 2021 - £2,436.18
Total expenditure - £3205.39 (£300 of which has been transferred into our Premium account).
