Para 1.17 and

To build professional capacity to create more
and better opportunities for children and
young people to engage in and advocate for
a better built environment responding to
sustainability and wellbeing.
Embed architecture and urban design in
children’s education and facilitating the
empowerment of young people to influence
their environments through youth-led design
initiatives. We achieve this by fostering a
robust network that brings together teachers,
educators, and built environment experts
from across the United Kingdom, providing
them with the necessary support and
resources to advance their important work.
This is achieved through Inspire Future
Generation Awards and Architecture into
Education Awards, monthly TET Dialogues,
TET Resource Bank, and collaborative
research with universities and agencies.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

ceremony, held at the Building Centre in
December 2022. This event was attended by
a diverse group of individuals, practitioners
and not-for-profit organisations within our
field, with awards presented to deserving
young people representatives.
Established our second programme,
"Architecture Into Education." This initiative
honours teachers and built environment
professionals who have effectively
incorporated architecture and the built
environment into classroom teaching and
collaborative efforts. The awards will create,
promote and inspire school-led learning
programmes that explore these themes.
Extended TETDialogues programme.
Featuring a series of online events with
topics specifically relating to how to engage
young people in their environment. Notable
discussions included:
‘How to embed social value into practice
through engaging future generations’ -
February 2022
‘How can new technologies be harnessed to
successfully engage young people in
architecture and urban design?’March 2022

Research and development: The TETDialogues each produced a summary for wide dissemination together with the recordings published through YouTube channel TET_ArchiTV Research examining the involvement of UK Schools of Architecture with children and young individuals, including the nature of this engagement, is presently in progress and is scheduled for publication in 2023.

Para 1.41 Community Expansion:We have
significantly broadened our community of
practitioners by hosting events such as the
Inspire Future Generations Awards, TET
Dialogues, well-attended in-person and
virtual gatherings, and regular
communication through newsletters and
social media updates. These initiatives
collectively attracted the participation of over
420 individuals throughout the year in
person and online.
Enriching Our Online Resources:We have
increased our online research resource with
the addition of over 50 case studies,
research reports, and other valuable
guidance and best practices. These
resources are readily accessible to both
current and future practitioners and
stakeholders, serving as a valuable
knowledge base.
Strengthening Educational Networks:
Through our Architecture Into Education
scheme, we have expanded our network of
schools and educators who are incorporating
built environment-related courses into their
school activities. This initiative has played a
pivotal role in promoting the integration of
these essential topics into education.
Diversifying Award Categories:In an effort
to recognise a wider spectrum of excellence,
we have introduced one new award category
alongside our Diversity in Action, the "Social
Value" category. This category
acknowledges initiatives aimed at benefiting
children and young people, which are
undertaken as part of a Social Value
commitment by built environment practices,
companies, and local authorities.
Amplified Presence in the Media:We have
increased our visibility in the media through
thought-provoking opinion pieces advocating
for more youth engagement into practice.
We support publications and freelance
journalists to write about youth engagement
such as Francesa Perry.
