Achievements and Performance

Para 1.20 | Junior Section All stars and dynamos had a total of 46 children taking part in our entry level to cricket and the club it was a great success and hope to build on this in 2025. Some of the dynamos also joined the Under 11s team towards the end of the season and although Under 11s found it difficult to get their games played those that were played provided great opportunity to get involved. The cup games were particularly great, although they could not get past Wigton in the cup quarter finals. Under 13s had a tough season with often having to borrow other team players and unfortunately didn’t find a win but the core team showed resilience, team spirit and enthusiasm. Under 15s like previous years, this group of players had more success being East league winners. For lots of members of this team this was their last season of junior cricket we wish the best of luck to all of them. Winter training has begun, being led by the cricket development manager and each week new players are joining, recruitment to continue. We have been able to offer the sessions to juniors for free. Fundraising continues. All stars and dynamos to begin again in May, date to be confirmed. Additional activities around these sessions to be planned to help engage families around the club. Women and Girls Section This season has been an exciting period of growth for women’s and girls’ cricket at Penrith Cricket Club. Here are the key highlights: Squad Growth: We have successfully developed a squad of around 15 women and girls, demonstrating strong interest and commitment to the sport. Match Experience: The squad played four matches throughout the season, gaining valuable experience and confidence on the field. Hard Ball Cricket Progression: Four members of the squad have transitioned to hard ball cricket, showcasing their skill development and dedication. |
Team Atmosphere : A fantastic team atmosphere has been fostered, with players supporting one another and building strong camaraderie. Winter Nets : Our winter nets sessions are off to an excellent start, with six new players joining the squad. This has resulted in a clear distinction between junior and senior groups, allowing for more targeted coaching and progression. Looking Ahead : We aim to increase the number of fixtures this coming season and explore opportunities to transition into hard ball cricket for more competitive play. Some players will need to progress further with Eden Eagles and the county pathway to ensure continued development and exposure to higher levels of cricket. Our long-term vision is to establish competitive soft ball and hard ball teams representing Penrith Cricket Club across the county. The enthusiasm, commitment, and progress this season have laid a solid foundation for the future of women’s and girls’ cricket at Penrith. We are confident that with continued effort and support, this section of the club will go from strength to strength. Disability Cricket Section During this summer we have held three events to attract people in our community to come to the ground and have some fun and make friends. This has been free to all with refreshments provided and paid for. It made the experience more enjoyable for the youngsters, by coming into the club, chatting and enjoying the company. You will be interested to know that one mum told me that her son hardly leaves the house. So, to get him out playing cricket and wanting to return gives us an idea of the positive impact this can have on a family. An age range of 5- to 16-year-olds have attended. The target for the first event was 10 people, this was reached. The second event there were 18 and the third was down to 14, a number being away on holiday. We can count this as being a success.
Winter sessions have been held in partnership with Cumbria Cricket. The venues are booked by Cumbria Cricket, and the sessions are taken by the Club. There are 6 youngsters that turn up regularly, they are people that attended the summer sessions. The first 4 sessions were held in Ullswater College, there has been one session of table cricket in Penrith CC clubhouse and the Spring sessions are in North Lakes school. Senior Cricket Section The following is a summary of the 2024 season. The first X1 was soundly led. A good team spirit existed and, on the whole, a happy ship. The team performances were very inconsistent, reaching great heights one week but then hitting a low the following week. The talent is in the squad but on occasions maybe it wasn’t directed or focussed to its best effect which in turn led to the inconsistent performances and ultimately a final disappointing league position of seventh! Going forward the players must set themselves individual targets so they can improve themselves as individuals which in turn will feed into the overall team strategy and ensure more consistent performances. The players have the ability and with some diligent recruitment and focussing on new and current skills promotion to the next tier is a very realistic goal for the 2025 season. Stats for 2024 season 1[st] XI: (League) Played: 23 Won: 11 Lost: 11 No result: 1 The second X1 team was a mixture of experienced and younger players looking to establish themselves in senior cricket. Like the first X1 inconsistency plagued their season and resulted in a 4[th] position finish in the league. Rather disappointing as the team included some very able cricketers who probably didn’t produce the performances they would have liked. A sound cup run was halted by a semi-final defeat.
Stats for 2024 seaso n 2[nd] XI : Played: 27 Won: 14 Drawn: 8 Lost: 3 No Result: 2 A difficult season with much chopping and changing each week through unavailability which led to a season where results were not as good as had hoped. The major positive was that some younger/junior members of the club got an opportunity to play senior cricket. Going forward the team wants to embrace the club’s young talent and give them an opportunity to express their talents in a senior cricket environment. The captain this year will be ably supported by the club’s cricket development manager who when available will support and develop the youngsters in a game environment. Para 1.21 | This was the Charity’s first period, during this period the Charity received funds transferred from the previous entity and at the year held unrestricted reserves of £11,419. At the end of the year the Charity held restricted reserves of £21,656, £1,756 of this is for refurbishment work which will be spent next year and £19,900 is funding for the Cricket Development Manager role which will commence next year. |
