Programs and Services
Schools Programmes
The Foundation has delivered basketball into multiple primary and secondary schools providing Basketball sessions for children aged 5 to 18 in PE lessons, taster sessions and out of hours clubs, reaching in excess of 1500 participants.
Basketball Camps
The Foundation has run numerous school holiday camps with events aimed at differing ability levels, including “girls only” camps.
We also attached coaching CPD events to the camps to help upskill local coaches.
Community Sessions
The Foundation has supported government funded community projects across the county, providing free access to basketball allowing children to get involved in the sport at no cost.
Some of the children were directed into more organised and structured sessions to give new opportunities to those from disadvantaged and deprived areas.
Development Clubs
The Foundation has established and operated 5 community club sessions across Northamptonshire in Northampton, Wellingborough, Moulton, Rushden/Higham Ferrers and Corby for participants of all ages, genders, ethnicities and socio economic backgrounds.
National League Teams
The Foundation supports 11 teams competing in National League level competition. Teams were made up for both girls and boys between the ages of 11-18 as well as senior teams for both men & women.
Grants were provided to 10 children from low socio economic backgrounds to enable them to participate at the highest level.
Moulton College Basketball Academy
The Foundation has continued to develop the positive partnership with Moulton College. As part of this partnership, we continue to provide 3 coaches to support the Moulton Basketball Academy, further enabling access to the sport. The plans for 2023/24 increase the Foundation’s involvement in supporting the college’s Basketball Academy growth.
University of Northampton BUCS Programme
The Foundation commenced a new relationship with University of Northampton to deliver coaching to relaunch their basketball programme in BUCS competition as well as introducing a women’s section. The women’s section was introduced 6 months earlier than planned due to the positive influence our work had.
Leadership and Governance
Pete Burgoine Director of Operations & Community Coaching
"The impact we dream of making to improve young peoples lives drives every effort we make.
If we stay true to our values and aims, the future will be bright for everyone involved in basketball in Northamptonshire."
The first 3 years of the Foundation has been spent refining our offering and developing the infrastructure to build a sustainable programme for the future.
The impact we dream of making to improve young peoples lives drives every effort we make. If we stay true to our values and aims, the future will be bright for everyone involved in basketball in Northamptonshire.
We have seen 67% of our original 2020 development plans objectives completed ahead of schedule, I look forward to next years review as we continue to move forward.
We have established a community coaching team with a variety of skill sets allowing us significant diversity of the type of projects we can deliver to provide a positive impact on the community.
By nearly doubling our delivery hours in the past year and reaching over 3,000 participants, we have expanded our impact across the various programs. These include school sessions for over 1,500 children, holiday camps, community sessions offering free access to basketball for those in most need as well as the establishment of five community clubs has widened access for many.
Being able to positively influence this many people, young and old, introducing many to basketball for the first time is immensely rewarding. The opportunity to be able to support children from low socio-economic backgrounds to maximise their opportunity and talent adds another dimension to what we do.
I can’t wait to see what next year brings.
