- Trustees Report for Period September 2020 April 2021
Cymdeithas Canolfan Iâl Association was granted Charity status on 17[th] September 2020. Our main objective was and is to provide the residents of Bryneglwys with a community hub. We appointed an architect who met with Trustees and using their input and ideas has drawn up comprehensive plans for the renovation of the building and its transformation into a community facility.
Our initial plan was to complete the renovation in three phases, which would allow the use of parts of the building. This would begin to offer a facility for the community to meet and allow us to raise funds towards the second phase.
Then, the COVID pandemic hit and opportunities to begin working towards meeting our objective were severely curtailed as we were in lockdown or under restrictions for most of the remaining period covered by this report. Whilst this was unfortunate and at times frustrating, it was unavoidable and very quickly, other matters became more important.
The following will be covered in detail in the next Trustees’ annual report, but to give you an idea of how we are proceeding with our plans, here is a synopsis of what has happened since April 2020:

As restrictions eased, we applied to the Clocaenog wind farm fund for £30,000. Following discussions with officers of the grant body, we are confident that we will get this funding.

The Trustees had a working party, following all COVID regulations at the time, and cleared a lot of rubbish from inside and outside the building.

The Charity is also currently included in a larger bid for the Parliamentary constituency of Clwyd West to receive ‘levelling up’ funding, which will be distributed by Denbighshire County Council. Officers of the Board of Trustees met with the leader of Denbighshire CC and our MP in the building. We have also had several meetings with Council officers, to help prepare the paperwork they require for the bid to succeed. all have offered their approval and support in writing a bid for our project. This funding should have been delivered by November 2021 but is still ongoing. The Treasury have now said it will be Spring before funding is allocated. If successful, we would look to amend our phased plan and endeavour to complete the entire project in one phase.

Trustees have paid all utility bills so that we have oil and electricity to ensure that the building is heated throughout the winter months to reduce condensation and damp problems, and to maintain the building in as good a condition as possible.
As life is slowly beginning to return to a level of normality, Trustees are looking forward to being able to proceed with the project in 2022.
