Trustees Annual Report Financial Year ended 31[st] March 2023
Ludlow and District Riding for the Disabled Association, (also known as Ludlow & District RDA), became an independent charity on 1[st] April 1999. The constitution is the standard constitution of the Riding for the Disabled Association, first adopted at a meeting on the 19[th] November 1998.
During 2011 Ludlow and District Group merged with Leominster Group and approximately 20 riders and the assets were transferred.
Following an Extraordinary General Meeting in February 2020, Ludlow & District RDA applied for, and was successful in becoming an incorporated organisation in September 2020. The Trustees agreed to transfer all assets at a meeting on 15[th] September 2020 and the new Charity number was adopted. A new constitution, again the standard constitution of the Riding for the Disabled Association, was also adopted.
The trustees manage the day to day running of the Group and are appointed or reappointed at the Annual General Meeting held each autumn. The Trustees during the year to 31[st] March 2023 were as follows:
Denise Cottom – elected Chairman
Margaret Anderson – elected Secretary Diane Sisley – elected Treasurer Penny Mcllelan Janet Williams
The charity’s correspondence address is Old Harpfields, Burford, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8HP.
The Groups’ Bankers throughout the year were Barclays Bank, Leicester, LE87 2BB.
The Association’s cash assets as at 31[st] March 2023 were £33,752.40.
The aim of Ludlow & District RDA is to provide disabled adults and children with the opportunity to ride horses or ponies, to benefit their health and wellbeing, in Ludlow and the surrounding area. Since leaving North Farm on 16[th] August 2021 Ludlow & District RDA have not provided carriage driving and, currently, have no plans to do so. Discussions with the Cavalier Centre, Much Wenlock failed to find a suitable way forward. As a result those of our coaches, volunteers and drivers who wished to continue driving have integrated into the Cavalier Centre group. Our congratulations went to Penny Mclellan, who qualified as a Driving Coach for them. Riding sessions for adults and children during the year continued at Country Treks, Ginny Hole, Stottesdon. We were pleased to sign a new agreement with Stephanie Eddies-Davies in July. During the year 223 rides took place. We have been pleased to welcome some new riders and to watch both them and all our established ones flourish and progress in the supportive environment at Country Treks.
The charity has no employees and so is entirely reliant on voluntary helpers. During the year we have lost some volunteers to pastures new, but have welcomed others, so our current total is 17. The Group would be unable to function without the help and support of our volunteers. They are absolutely essential as coaches and for leading, side-walking and supporting our riders throughout our sessions. They are also invaluable in helping with the fundraising required to enable the Group to carry out its’ prime objectives. And we are extremely lucky in having Elaine Hill as an inspired Editor for our Newsletters. The Trustees are extremely grateful to them all, during what proved to be another challenging year. All in the Group continue to receive training to enable us to carry out our roles with participants and horses, including Safeguarding training and all are DBS checked, as required.
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
Signed on behalf of the trustees.
