Para 1.17 | The objects of Demeter are: The relief of sickness and the perseveration and protection of health for the public benefit in the UK, Malawi and such other parts of the world as the trustees shall from time to time determine by: a) promoting the intrinsic value of quality of life by raising awareness of the positive impact that palliative care can have on the lives of people suffering from terminal illness, their family and friends; b) promoting the inclusion of pain relief and palliative care services in health systems, in particular but not exclusively by providing grants and expertise to build capacity in health care systems thereby embedding good palliative care practices and ensuring fair and equitable access to pain medication in healthcare settings for the benefit of all patients. |

The main activities undertaken have been to develop a project to audit morphine use in Malawi, one of the countries with the most opaque morphine usage for palliative care. Demeter has also been raising awareness of the global issue of inequality of access to morphine for palliative care through the website and social media channels. |
