The charity's objects are restricted specifically, in each case only for the public benefit:

• To advance the education of the public benefit in the subject of the Bosnian Genocide. In particular, European, Bosnian and British Bosnian history relevant to the Bosnian Genocide. Furthermore, advancement of the subject in relation to other genocides and the Holocaust.

• To promote religious and racial harmony, equality, diversity and good citizenship by advancing the education about the Bosnian Genocide and its contemporary relevance.

• To promote the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation by raising public awareness of the causes and effects of prejudice and racism in society including the significant impact of the Bosnian Genocide, as well as other acts of systematic discrimination, in particular those leading to genocide and the Holocaust.

The organisation advances genocide education, specifically centring on the Bosnian Genocide, however, it also will educate on other instances of genocide including the Holocaust.

We organise a variety of innovative educational events and activities throughout the year. All of our events and resources are based on internationally agreed principles of effective genocide / Holocaust education and contemporary research. We encourage participants / audience to explore the complexity of the Bosnian genocide through hearing first-hand experiences of survivors and victims. All educational material is based on first-hand testimony, and often involving at least one survivor sharing their story.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to our objects fall under 3 categories:

• 1: Research where we gather survivor and refugees’ stories, personal objects and contribute to publications.

• 2: Education including provision of workshops and talks in schools, universities, for public and private organisations, and organising study trips to Bosnia.

3. Community projects in collaboration with other organisations and charities to coordinate art and cultural projects, and commemorative events and activities.

The Trustees are aware of their obligations and responsibilities to act in accordance with the public benefit requirement and have taken all necessary steps and procedures, as outlined in the relevant legislation, to ensure that any personal benefit (if any) is incidental. The purpose and aim of the Trustees and the charity, is to carry out solely charitable acts for the public benefit. All future Trustees will be briefed and provided with relevant information as required.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

• Trust admin/ management  Set up and maintenance of website.

• Set up bank account.

• Held regular trustee meetings.  Developed network of volunteers and collaborators.  Identified funding opportunities.  Established key roles within the trust.

• Projects  Collected survivor stories and hosted these on our website as learning resources.

•  Organised and provided survivor talks with various schools and organisations such as Show Racism the Red Card, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Ministry of Defence, Department for Work and Pensions etc.

•  Organised and provided commemorative and educational activities, events and workshops with various local authorities across the North East as well as organisations such as the Northumbria Police and North East Ambulance Service, government institutions, charities, schools, colleges, NHS Trusts, Police, Unions etc.

•  Developed and piloted educational programme “Making Peace: Schools Programme” with Show Racism the Red Card.

•  Collaborated with local charities, local authorities and Council of Faiths to develop an annual interfaith event “Festival of Lights”.

• Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 . Collaborated with local authorities, charities and organisations i.e. Skimstone Arts, Show Racism the Red Card, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust etc.

• Publications and media : speaker/ survivor contributions to articles in the Independent, MSN, Belfast Telegraph, Chronicle Live, BBC World Holocaust Day , Channel 4 Britain’s Forgotten War with Tony Robinson , National Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony, local news etc. Our speakers have been featured in national and international broadcasts including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Al Jazeera, Turkey’s TRT World, Bosnian TV channel Hayat, The Irish News and more.

• Art and cultural projects: Collaborated with Skimstone Arts to produce poems, songs and soundscapes using shared stories about Bosnia.
