## **TRUSTEES REPORT**

## **FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 30TH APRIL 2025**

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

The advancement of animal welfare for the public benefit in the UK and abroad by the promotion of human compassion towards animals, the protection of animals from cruelty and the relief of animal suffering through:

- **a.** Forming partnerships with animal and wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and adoption organisations and volunteers globally, providing them with funding (by way of grants), information, advice and support for their projects;

- **b.** Taking financial responsibility and overall responsibility for the care of animals rescued by partner animal and wildlife rescue organisations and volunteers abroad and rehoming these animals with appropriate families in the United Kingdom; and

- **c.** Raising awareness of and providing education around global stray, abandoned and abused animal welfare concerns abroad and working with communities to address these concerns in a way that is mutually beneficial for the animal and human population.

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for street dogs in Turkey, empowering the local volunteers that help us to improve the quality of life for street dogs in Turkey and rescuing and rehoming dogs.

We achieve this by:

**Grants** – supporting local volunteers in Turkey to care for the existing street dog population in their local areas and to reduce the street dog population in those same areas. We do this by providing funding for:

1. Spay/neuter surgeries for street dogs;

2. Fuel for transporting street dogs to the vets for emergency care or spay/neuter surgeries;

3. Dog food;

4. Dog shelters and feeding stations

5. Key medicines such as tick, flea and worming treatments; and

6. Accommodation for street dogs in recovery from spay/neuter operations or other emergency treatments before release.

Volunteers to whom we make grants are volunteers with whom we have built a trusting relationship and who have proven to have a positive impact on the welfare of street dogs in their local area and their local community. These volunteers all promote spay and neuter of dogs (street dogs and pet dogs) and support members of their community to be more responsible pet owners. Appropriate due diligence is carried out to monitor the correct use of grants by volunteers. For example, written updates on and pictures and videos of the work grants we are supporting are provided by the volunteers and visiting the volunteers and boarding facility we use in Turkey.

**Rescue** – rescuing vulnerable dogs from the streets, for example, dogs that will not survive as street dogs for reasons including injury, abandonment and/or age. For dogs that we rescue and place in our care until rehoming, we provide veterinary treatment and secure boarding facility until they are transported to the UK to be placed into adoptive homes, foster homes or kennels from which appropriate placements are found. This year we have branched into rehoming dogs which have been surrendered in the UK too. The situation in the UK is severely deteriorating and there are not enough rescues to keep up with the demand for help so we agreed to increase our UK operations to help where we can.

**Rehoming** – rehoming dogs who are unable to be released back onto the streets of Turkey and assisting partner organisations to rehome their dogs in the UK too.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

Our income remained strong in this accounting period and we have continued to be able to operate at the same level as previous years, providing a substantial amount of financial support to local volunteers to feed, spay/neuter and seek veterinary treatment for dogs on the streets of Turkey.

In the period between May 2024 and April 2025:

1. We continued our relationship with two local volunteers in Turkey to whom we made grants for food and shelter support for street dogs;

2. We transported more dogs to their new homes in the UK . We are provided with updates on dogs rehomed by the charity by way of social media or direct contact with the adopters;

3. We made grants to local volunteers in Turkey for the feeding, shelter and spaying/neutering of street dogs.; and

4. We spayed/neutered all dogs brought into the charity’s care and supported the spaying/neutering of street dogs.

## **ANGELS FOR ANIMALS FOUNDATION**

## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 30TH APRIL 2025**

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

The charity’s income for the year is £85,394.81, up from £53,171 in the previous accounting period. The charity’s expenditure for the year is £72,939.87, up from £59,375 in the previous accounting period. The charity had a net income of £12,454.94 versus £-6,204 in the previous accounting period.

The charity had an increase in both income and expenditure as a result of the activity made possible by the return of a healthy level of general donations, and more significant grants.

As a result of the increased levels of income (returning to a similar level as 2022/2023) the charity remains in a strong position at the end of the period holding over five times our set reserve and there is no liability that the Trustees are aware of that would weaken the charity’s finances. The charity is in a good position on which to build to continue to achieve its objectives over the next annual period.

## **RESERVES POLICY**

The aim of the charity is to ensure that the charity’s ongoing and future activities are reasonably protected from unexpected variances in its income and expenditure. We aim to keep a minimum level of unrestricted general fund, currently set at £5,000.

## **PRINCIPLE SOURCES OF FUNDING**

**Donations** – as per the last accounting period, a significant amount of the charity’s funding during this period came from supporter donations.

**Grants** – the charity was successful in its application for 10 grants to support its objectives during this period compared to 15 grants during the prior accounting period.

## **PUBLIC BENEFIT**

The Trustees have given careful consideration to, and complied with, the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. We provide public benefit by:

- a. Supporting the treatment of injured or ill street dogs;

- b. Supporting the reduction of the street dog population;

- c. Supporting the work of local street dog volunteers in Turkey;

d. Providing volunteering opportunities for those who wish to support our work;

e. Uniting a community of animal lovers in the UK and other countries to support our work in Turkey;

f. Promoting the benefits of spaying and neutering in Turkey to help reduce the number of street dogs; and

- g. Rehoming dogs with vetted families in the UK.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS**

Report to the trustees/members of Angels For Animals Foundation on the accounts for the period ended 30th April 2025 set out on pages 8 to 11.

## **RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER**

The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this period (under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act),

- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act), and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT**

My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the organisation and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT**

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:

   - proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 130 of the Act); and

   - accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
