SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Every year countless hedgehogs are killed
and injured. As well as the pain and
suffering hedgehogs endure, many young
babies are left orphaned and need to be
hand-reared before release.
Humans cause many hedgehog deaths
and injuries through the irresponsible
disposing of litter, habitat destruction and
the use of garden tools and chemicals and
through speeding on the roads and
pointless cruelty. LCHR has continued
supporting hedgehogs with 373 hedgehogs
admitted for treatment during 2023.
LCHR has been microchipping hedgehogs
since 2016 and have continued to do so
and have to date microchipped 1746, this
has provided useful information when
hedgehogs have returned to rescue.
LCHR continue to study the benefits from
this, trying to understand the benefits of
releasing to different environments to assist
with survival rates.
