## **Objectives and Activities**

The objective of the charity as specified in the trust deed is:

The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship anywhere in the world. Provide or assist in the provision of basic essentials such as food, clothing, medicine and sanitation. To advance education of orphans and children

## **Activities carried out to reach objectives**

The charity has implemented many projects and appeals in order to achieve its charitable objectives. This includes but is not limited to:

- Water Projects that provide fresh, clean water to those who would otherwise have difficult access to safe water. This includes hand pumps, water wells, solar water wells and water tankers

- Food Aid Projects – Supplying either hot meals or food packs around the globe

- Medical Aid in various forms sent in Emergency Appeals

- Housing Project – Repairing and Building homes for those most vulnerable

- Masjid Projects – Donations going towards the running and maintenance of Masjids

- Zakat Cash Distributions and other Zakat applicable projects

- Yearly Ramadan Projects

- Yearly Qurbani Project

- Eid Toys & Gifts Project

- Emergency Aid provided during the Turkey/Syria earthquakes as well as to other parts of the globe

- Self-Sustainable Projects to help people maintain an on-going source of income

- Winter projects – continuing our annual winter appeals

## **Achievements and performance**

Although the cost of living is hitting people hard, many of our donors and supporters have contributed to making this our most successful year thus far, meaning our reach and range of projects has been able to help a lot more people

This year saw the regions of Turkey & Syria get ravaged through earthquakes and the response from our supporters was immense. The outpouring of support from everyone was

heartfelt and we hope the small part we played through providing emergency aid was able to help ease a bit of the suffering for those involved

The trustees are also pleased with the Housing Project implemented after the floods in Bangladesh & Pakistan, ensuring that longer term support was being provided to those affected after the initial devastation and reminding them that they have not been forgotten

The charity continues to implement projects continuously such as Food Aid and Water Aid projects, alongside the many other various forms of projects we carry out. As always whenever needed, we have made appeals for various projects and have had good responses to them from our donors

## **Looking ahead**

Although we hit new heights during this year, the trustees are aware that the levels of donations may not be sustainable in the upcoming year, however we believe the charity has the base to continue providing a good level of support around the globe

We already have plans to continue with many of our projects and new appeals will be added as and when needed. We are confident that the charity can continue to provide essential aid on a regular basis and in times of emergency too

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The charity is regulated by its trust deed dated 19 August 2020

The charity is run entirely on a voluntary basis and is overseen by Trustees who are appointed. Trustees are appointed through agreements with all other Trustees at a scheduled meeting where the topic is considered. The Trustees are expected to have good integrity, passion and commitment to carrying out the charity objectives. The current Trustees may seek help and guidance from others in regards to the background and character of a new Trustee before appointment

The charity also gets help from volunteers but does not employ or pay anyone for the work carried out (excluding re-imbursements)

## **Statement of Trustees responsibilities**

The Trustees are responsible for the overall running and maintenance of the charity. The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees Annual Report and Financial statements in accordance to the relevant laws

The Trustees are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records, safeguarding the charity from risks, taking reasonable steps to prevent & detect any irregularities or frauds and follow & maintain all relevant applicable laws

## **Financial review and reserves policy**

We are pleased to say that this was our most successful year in terms of donation income and this meant we were able to help more people than ever before. The charity is currently in a healthy financial position from which it can continue its work

The main source of income for the charity was through charitable donations and the organization was also permitted to claim Gift Aid which helped cover all the running and admin costs, keeping the donations policy at 100%

The charity regularly has a small reserve policy to cover any unforeseen circumstances and in regards to the going concern for the charity it sees no issues for the continuance of the organization for the medium to long term future

## **Risk Assessment**

The Trustees regularly assess and review any major risks which the charity may face at its meetings. The Trustees are satisfied with all the systems in place and can report that no major risks were brought to attention this previous year and no immediate risks have been identified to the running of the charity for the foreseeable future

## **Trustees Conclusion**

The Trustees would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us in our efforts to reach our charity objectives. This includes all donors, volunteers and the people who helped us implement all our projects

We are pleased to state that the charity was able to carry out many projects and reach a large population of people around the globe. This year has shown the generosity of humankind as although many people are struggling with the cost of living crisis, they still have donated generously to help those who may be struggling more and in need of more assistance

## **Independent Examiners Report**

## **TO THE TRUSTEES OF PEOPLES FOUNDATION**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the PEOPLES FOUNDATION (the Trust) for the year ended 31 August 2023

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act')

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act

## **Independent examiner's statement**

The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), which is one of the listed bodies

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- • the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
