Annual Report for the Heath Band

January to December 31[st] 2022

The Heath Band is a community, non-contesting brass band which provides musical entertainment at concerts and local events. As well as the main band we also have a training band for all ages and abilities.

Aims and Purposes

To promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art of music, particularly brass band music through the operation of an amateur brass band, facilitating the musical education of band members and the presentation of public performances.

Activities

We were pleased to welcome Steve Allen back as our Musical Director. He is bringing stability and consistency to the band and will move us forward. We were also delighted to welcome several new members .

This year our normal engagement schedule went ahead as planned. This included summer bandstand events, fetes and other outdoor and indoor events. At Christmas we enjoyed playing for two council Christmas events as well as at a club and outside a shop.

For 2023

We would like to recruit more members to the band particularly in some positions. We will be continuing to market our need for more players. We would also like to recruit more people to the committee.

2023 will be our 90[th] birthday so we will be holding an event to celebrate.

Finances

Our main income streams are membership fees and payment for playing at events such as fetes. This year for the first time since the pandemic we will break even.

Our income for 2022 was £ 5,353.74 with expenditure of £5,903.54. We finished the year with a reduced deficit from the last two years and we are hopeful that we will break even next year.

Administrative Information

The trustees met regularly throughout the year.

Two of our trustees moved during 2022. The Chair role is currently shared amongst the Trustees.

Musical Director’s Report

I am delighted with the progress of the band since taking over the Musical Director role and the continued growth over the last few months. The Spring Concert was a huge triumph for the band and showed that we can perform to a high standard and work with other groups very successfully, producing a rounded program with something for everyone. The Band also enjoyed their performance at the Bandstand in the summer and to have played at a couple of new events - at Dunstable bandstand, and at Bedford’s Christmas Market. The growth of the training band is a credit to all concerned and needs a special mention as this is the future of Heath Band. Overall I feel the band has a great future and with commitment from all members we will have fun and give professional-sounding performances at all our events.
