The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year 01[st] of October 2021 to 30[th] of September 2022.
Objectives and Activities
a. Policies and Objectives
The objects of Skaped, as set out in our governing document are:
To advance the education of young people aged 11-30 years old, primarily (but not exclusively) those that reside in the UK in the subject of Human Rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations conventions and declarations), through the provision of art based educational workshops and other activities as a mean of:

(a) Equipping young people with the tools needed to create social change by using the creative arts to reflect on their strengths and the collective power of community.

(b) Advancing and improving young people’s confidence and their artistic expression skills.

(c) Enhancing young people’s skills to get involved in their communities.
b. Activities for achieving objectives
Skaped was set up as a volunteer-led organisation in 2017, and converted to a registered charity in August 2020, during the middle of the pandemic, after establishing proof of concept. Set up by Sandy AbdelRahman and Thayna Graciano, Skaped is a youth led Artivist charity that supports young people from under-resourced communities to engage with community building and social change through the creative arts. Through our unique delivery of creative workshops, events and educational programmes, we encourage young people to explore self-worth, community building, and social change issues (such as gender inequality, discrimination, etc.) in safe and non-judgmental peer-group environments.
Skaped aims to empower young people to lead change in their communities by following Skaped’s Strategy for Social Change:
Step 1: Reflect on your identity, intersectionality and personal values.
Step 2: Come together to build community, finding power within the collective.
Step 3: Use artistic expression to create social change.
All our workshops, educational programmes and projects have been co-designed with our volunteers and youth steering group to ensure we meet the needs of our community and that our work is accessible to all. Our piloting and testing system ensures our programmes are transformative for young people from all backgrounds. Through our work, young people receive the support they need to harness their self-worth and self-awareness, ensuring they engage with their community and develop their own artistic expression of social change.
Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life; however, the majority of our young people have lived experiences of social, gender or economic barriers. We use the creative arts to help young people find solutions and raise awareness of their community issues. Skaped’s values, creativity, inclusivity, community empowerment, empathy, and social justice, are at the heart of everything we do.
Our work:
Reclaim Your Space: 'Reclaim your Space' is one of our continuously tailored programmes that aims to raise awareness of gender inequalities and boundaries to achieve and recognise gender justice. This programme offers group learning and the opportunity to participate in creative, team building and female-led sports activities. We cover current topics such as exploring identities, intersectionality, boundaries, privilege, and social barriers. This ensures our young people can understand and recognise their potential and self-worth early on through their exploration of sisterhood.
This programme builds on our continuous work and fights toward gender justice by ensuring our young people can develop and create new ways to challenge patriarchal perspectives through their own creative expression. We used a combination of art and sport, which was inclusive and easily accessible to give the girls confidence in their own capabilities. This was an intense one-week programme, and the Skaped team delivered 12 hours of workshops for 12 dedicated girls from Mulberry School of girls.

They particularly enjoyed creating their own boundary boxes to represents their identities likes and interests. They were enthusiastic to try out new activities. Community Artivism:
Building on the success of our last year Community and Artivism project, we have now launched a full 3-month rogramme which will be part of our yearly ongoing programmes. We work with 16-25year-old east Londoners to challenge themselves and create a space enriched with empathy, art and compassion. They explore intersectionality, identities, privilege, allyship community-building and ways in which arts can create social change.

It is the right place as an artist to work, at least for me. You have offered a very friendly and creative platform for young artists. Volunteer Programme:
We have launched our new volunteer programme, as a heavily voluntarily led organisation, volunteers are important to our family and us. Our programme offers a supportive platform to enrich their professional (and personal) journeys, including weekly check-ins, 1-2-1 support, feedback session and various team training and self-care to put the individuals first.
Tailored Workshops: We have also delivered tailored workshops for young people aged 18-30 to youth organisations and community groups across the UK. Through these tailored workshops we have reached over 120 young people, covering topics such as self-care & sisterhood, Protest Art, and gender equality rights. We partnered and delivered workshops with the Vagina Museum, The Trampery Republic, Social Ark and the Olympic Park and many more.
Inspirational Talks: Our inspirational talks are tailored for university students, youth steering groups and charities by our lived experience leaders – the talks are designed to encourage and inspire the upcoming generations to become community changemakers, using their lived experiences to positively impact the people around them.
c. Contribution made by Volunteers
As a heavily voluntarily led organisation, we highly value and recognise the amazing work our team of volunteers contribute to Skaped. Our volunteers come from various backgrounds, with lived experiences and expertise surrounding the work we deliver, such as social justice, creative arts, community healing, social media, journalism etc.
Our volunteers are values-driven individuals who passionately champion our work, mission and vision to inspire and support our young people.

We openly advertise for all our volunteering opportunities on social media, non-profit platforms and through our partners and supporting organisations. Our volunteers are the backbone to our organisation and our work; they support us in co-designing our programmes and projects. We support our volunteers in every step we take; this includes organising training, team building activities, mentoring, 1-2-1 supports and ensuring they are all equipped to fulfil their roles. Between 2021-2022, we have seen an increase in our volunteers from last year, we have directly worked with 35 volunteers.
Achievements and Performance
a. Our Impact
From October 2021 until September 2022, Skaped has reached more than 200 young people across London, we have directly worked with over 70 young people. We explore self-care, community building, Artivism and Social change issues – from gender inequality to personal activism as part of social change and creative a safe community for all. We have provided more than 45 hours of 1-2-1 support, 50 hours of tailored workshops sessions and invited over 6 expert guest speakers and artists.
We have directly benefited young people from the 6 east London boroughs. We’ve worked with 30 volunteers who helped us co-design and deliver our art-based workshops and educational
programmes to improve young people’s understanding of their rights while building confidence and soft skills.
Through our programmes and art projects young people gain various skills, these include:

Increase self-esteem and confidence.

Develop between understand of their identities, intersectional and the self

Develop their artistic expression skills.

Improve knowledge of understanding their rights and responsibilities.

Understanding the importance of social action and finding a solution for community issues.

Improving debates skills and public speaking.
b. Key financial performance indicators
As a newly registered charity, most of our funding this year was restricted to project delivery, including staff cost, expenditure, etc. However, we are now in a better financial stage where we can be able for more capacity building funds. We currently have reserve funding which will be spent in the following 3-6-months on projects basis.
Financial Review
a. Going Concern
The board is currently working to ensure Skaped operates safely within the UK government advice. As a newly registered charity, Skaped is slowly securing core cost funding, including operational cost and capacity building. We are also working with our trustees’ board and volunteer experts to ensure our policies are all up to date.
Structure, governance and management
a. Constitution
Skaped has a Constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is registered with the charity Commission. (Charity number: 1191001). The principal object of the Charity is to advance the education of young people aged 11-30 years old, primarily (but not exclusively) those that reside in the UK in the subject of Human Rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations conventions and declarations), through the provision of art based educational workshops and other activities.
b. Management Structure
Skaped has a charitable board of 3 trustees. Each trustee member has a direct lived experience of an issue that Skaped addresses in their work and/or that our beneficiaries are faced with. Our board holds various skills this include fundraising, safeguarding, project delivery, creative impact, diversity and inclusion. Skaped CEO reports back to the board of trustees. The CEO support and works closely with the Skaped team and team-leaders. Financial decisions are agreed by at least 2 trustees.
c. Method of Appointment or Election of Trustees
The management of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustees, who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the Trust deed.

2. Statement of Trustee Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Strategic Report, the Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
Company law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). Under company law the Trustees must not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the group and charity and of application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the group for that period.
In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
make judgements and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the charity’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
Financial statements are published on the charity’s website in accordance with legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements, which may vary from legislation in other jurisdictions. The maintenance and integrity of the charity’s website is the responsibility of the trustees. The trustees’ responsibility also extends to the ongoing integrity of the financial statements contained therein.
In so far as the trustees are aware:

there is no relevant information of which the Independent Examiner is unaware; and
-
the trustees have taken all steps that they ought to have taken to make themselves aware of any relevant independent examination information and to establish that the Independent Examiner is aware of that information.

3. Independent Examiner’s Report
I report to the trustees of Skaped (Charity No 1191002) on the accounts for the period ended 30[th] September 2022.
Respective Responsibilities of the trustees and the independent examiner
The Charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act 2011, and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act 2011; or
-
the account did noy accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did noy comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part if an independent examination.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The company was entitled to exemption from audit under s477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.
The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Companies Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to small companies subject to the small companies regime and in accordance with FRS102 SORP.

NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
1. Accounting Policies
Basis of preparing financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRSSE) ‘Accounting and Reporting’ by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the provisions of FRS102 Section 1A Small Entities and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historic cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received, and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.
Fund Accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when the funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purposes of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
