1.19|This is a community-based charity run by the
residents for the benefit of their fellow villagers,
workers, and visitors to the area, seeking to improve
physical and mental wellbeing. This period was a
recovery period from the Covid Pandemic
Restrictions.

Using funds secured from NWRWR
partnership and Cynefin £750 as well as
funds raised in previous 2021 period, we
purchased a high-quality large picnic table for
the Play Park for families to enjoy whilst
children play.

Organised a Village Charity Market which
was held in conjunction with the local Beer &
Music Festival run by the Queens Head Pub,
Glanwydden.
•
Decorated the village with flower tubs and
bunting to mark Her Majesty the Queens 70
Years Reign.
•
Organised a Village Dawn Chorus Walk with
North Wales Wildlife Trust officer ensuring
accessibility for disabled participants.
•
Held a Very Successful Intervillage 6 a Side
Football Tournament with Penrhynside &
Llangwstenin. Mixed ages and genders.
•
Organised an Intervillage Jubilee Party for all.
110 villagers of all ages.|

charity cycle ride in memory of his mother
from Glanwydden to Ibiza.

Dedicated a donated tree to commemorate
the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth
II.

Purchased a weather resistant replacement
noticeboard and installed at the Play Park.
•
Purchased and organised the Dedication
Ceremony for a village memorial to the 10
men from the area who fell in WW1 & WW2
in conjunction with local war historian,
stonemason, the families of the Fallen,
Conwy County Borough Council Open
Spaces Team and the Church in Wales. A
gathering of the families afterwards in the
stable yard of the local public house to
exchange stories and record them. This was
at the specific request of the people in the
community. One residents concerns were
respectfully addressed.

A History Point established at the memorial
stone to tell the stories of the Fallen.

Village Remembrance Service and
participation in the local ‘Poppies on Doors’
campaign.

8 week long, village wide environmental
project to revive the village stream that had
become blocked and devoid of life. Aquatic
life now abundant.

2 x Christmas Wreath workshops

Village Outdoor Christmas Party round the
Tree.

|Contribution made by volunteers|Para 1.38|Across Glanwydden and Llangwstenin we can
count around 150 residents. Some 52 households
are connected to our Whatsapp network and all
households are leafletted regularly to ensure
awareness of the whys and wherefores of
upcoming community projects.
As a result, the larger projects such as the Village
Market and the Jubilee Party can call upon around
25 – 30 volunteers at any one time. That said
there is a smaller core of dedicated volunteers of 6
– 10 who turn out more regularly to ensure that
everyone can access village events and the village
infrastructure is well maintained.
All our projects are reliant on volunteers
contributions of skills and resources.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

achievements of the charity,

circumstances of its beneficiaries
and any wider benefits to society
as a whole.|Para 1.20|The Glanwydden & Valley Community Trust has
been in development since at least 2014 in an
unofficial capacity, supporting all who live, work
and pass through this area. However, none of us
could have predicted how important the Trust
would become in actively supporting the health,
safety and wellbeing of the villagers, workers and
those who came through the village during the
Covid pandemic.
This community has had a commitment to marking
Royal Milestones over at least 100 years.
Something which is not necessarily reflected in
nearby communities. Each milestone has brought
great communal effort and has been documented
over the decades.
In light of HM the Queen’s 70 years on the throne,
it was agreed that the whole village would mount a
3 week, 5 Event Festival called the Spring Jubilee.

6 months of preparations went into planting
areas and tubs, tidying up the village

planning the Village Charity Farmers
market & Festival.

Huge amounts of effort went into planning
the successful intervillage Football
tournament including working with the Local
Authority, Conwy County Borough Council
to make a new 6 a side football pitch for the
occasion.

Stronger intervillage links were made that
continue to benefit new projects

Our connection with North Wales Wildlife
Trust (NWWT) was strengthened again|

• History of the Village was embraced & understood once more across all generations with the planning and laying of the Memorial Stone. • Huge efforts, some 27 individuals, made towards carefully clearing the stream at the heart of the village of blockages and silt. This has undoubtedly helped towards flood prevention and improvement for stream ecology but has once again brought people together in these shared and significant goals.

and combatting isolation, accentuated by
Covid restrictions in 2020 & 2021.

community through the fundraising and laying

and whose ancestors served in the wars in so
many ways, were included and welcomed in
recognition of the price paid by their loved
ones and their wider family
The multiple events and achievements of the
community towards better facilities and communal
events has resulted in the Trust being widely accepted
as a beneficial servant of the community and the
public who make use of the valley for work and
recreational purposes. A promising second year.|

|Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives set|Para 1.41|**Community Gathering Space**– This community
lacks any space to gather. As such, it is keen to
ensure that soon we can erect a very small community
hub that can be extended by awnings and tents for
community events. Much of the funding raised,
principally by the Village Market will be targeted at the
Village Hub Building which is ongoing in 2023.
**Picnic Bench**- £500 and £250 in community project
grants were realised from the Rail Users Group and
Cynefin respectively towards the Picnic Bench, some
raffle funds from 2021 were added and additional
funds raised to pay for a robust and weather resistant
picnic bench paid for in March 2022 and delivered in|
|||May 2022. Recognition of cross community buy in for
the project.
**Noticeboard**– the community noticeboard was poorly
positioned and falling apart. Through fundraising and
consultation it was agreed to purchase a robust,
weather resistant enclosed noticeboard which was
installed in September 2022.|

## **Financial Review**
|Review of the charity’s financial

every Trustee meeting by email. Trustees can
examine and interrogate this at any time.
These reports are discussed and minuted at each
meeting. Suggestions for practical improvements
to formats and procedures have been examined
and voted upon where necessary . These have
then been incorporated into subsequent financial
summaries for the following meeting.

|The charity’s principal sources of

and produce sales. The Village Market was a
great success and incorporated tombolas, raffles
and produce stalls that generated a very
substantial income in 2022. Well over 600 people
attended this event alone and bought tickets etc.
This can be partially understood against the
context of its being the first large scale event after
Covid and as such resulted in considerable
revenue.

undertake a mutually agreed trial period. We ensure
they are supported in their new role. New recruits
are asked during the induction period to identify
knowledge gaps and how they would feel best
supported. Trustees will then work to cover this
ground and everyone learns from the experience.|

disseminated from this hub and discussed at the
minuted meetings.
Villagers of Glanwydden and Llangwstenin are
kept informed of the Trust’s latest activities. They
are the first circle of our network. Meeting notes
are shared and are made available on the web.
Events and fundraising objectives are posted on
noticeboards and flyers posted through all letter
boxes. Villagers are notified of impending Trust
meeting dates and encouraged to participate in
person and on Zoom and voice opinions at any
stage. Whilst only Trustees have voting rights,
we are representative of our community so give
everyone a fair hearing.
Increasingly close cooperation with neighbouring
communities of Llangwstenin, Penrhynside, Bryn
Pydew & Penrhyn Bay. This has been particularly
successful because of the Football Tournament|
