Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2023. The Trustees present their annual report of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2023. The Charitable Incorporated Organi5ation ICIOI was registered on 18 August 2020 50 this report represent the second full 12-month financial operating period. A financial statement has been prepared and 15 included in this report. Objectives and Activities The purpose5 of the Trust are.. To promote for the benefit of the public the recoverys conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promoting the biological diversity of the chalk streams, blow wells and related feature5 in Lincolnshire focussed around the Lincolnshire Wolds, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire,. and To advance the education of the public in the recoveryi conservationi protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of chalk stream5, blow wells and related features In setting our objectives and planning our activities we have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission's public benef it guidance. The main activities during this period have been to finalise the management plan for Northern Becks Catchment Based Approach ICaBAI a5 well a5 to secure funding to undertake Year One of walkover surveys on three operational catchments to produce an important evidence base of data. Achievements and Performance Over the last 12 months, the LC5T has continued to build on raising awareness of its activities through marketing materials and attendance at various events including the Lincolnshire show. As the host organisation for the Northern Becks Catchment Based Approach {CaBAI, the graduate volunteer employed in 2021-22 has SUPPOrted the finalisation of the new management plan. CaBA funds were also used to support the Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project to purchase new items of volunteer equipment to support volunteer days on the Northern Becks to undertake important habitat management work. This included items such as the purchase of waders and appropriate tools to assist with clearing scrub from the banks of overgrown streams.
The LCST wa5 a150 able to 5ucce55fully draw down signif icant f unding from the Environment Agency which has been used to employ ecological consultants AECOM to undertake walkover 5urvey5 in the Northern Becks operational catchment5. This work will continue in 2023-24 but has seen survey5 start on Barrow Beck, North Beck Drain and Laceby Beck. Funding mechanism5 through Amazon Smile and Easy Fundraising have started to See smaller contribution5 coming through to LCST however the former ha5 sadly now ceased. Financial Review The opening balance opening in April 2022 Stood at £10,924.04 The closing balance stood at £391872.24 in March 2023 The main source of our income has been from restricted 50urce5 mainly the CaBA fund5 and the Environment Agency which have brought £49,381.15 into the Trust. These are restricted funds of which £20,566.16 were used by the close of the account5 in March 23. Whilst most of our running costs have been supported by the CaBA funds there has only been about £100 raised this year in unrestricted funds. Fundraising is difficult and at this moment we do have over £3,000 in unrestricted fund5. This amount Should see costs covered for some time as currently this only goes towards accountancy costs. This is ok 50 long 65 the Trust conf ines itself to Using money that it has gained from external sources and uses the current unrestricted funds frugally. Structure, Governance and Management The Trust is a registered charity, number 1190917, constituted as Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 18 August 2020 and governed by its Constitution. Trustees are selected annually at the annual general meeting by members of the CIO. The Constitution provides for a minimum of three trustees, to a maximum of seven trustees, with no more than two-thirds of trustees due for re-appointment in any one year. At the quarterly trustees, meetings, the trustees agree the broad strategy and areas of activity for the Trust, including consideration of grant making, fundraising and performance. Plans forthe next 12 months It is intended that further opportunities to bring in additional funding will be explored and the banking arrangements will be reviewed to allow LCST to bring in larger award 5um5. The AECOM work will continue to survey the River Lud and SkitterlEast Halton Beck and finali5e its report. The Northern Becks tnanagement plèn will be reviewed. A programme of attendance at events ha5 already been scheduled to continue to raise the profile of the charity.
