2. Structure, governance and management
Lions Club of Huddersfield is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its constitution. Trustees are appointed in accordance with the constitution and serve on a voluntary basis. Day-to-day decisions are made by the membership, including the trustees.
Trustees oversee the charity’s activities, finances and compliance. No trustee remuneration is reported in the accounts for the year.
3. Objectives and activities
The Club’s objective is to serve the community of Huddersfield and surrounding areas through volunteer-led charitable activity. This includes organising events, supporting local causes and raising awareness of needs in the community.
The Club provides public benefit by supporting the welfare of individuals and groups through practical help, community activity and financial support, including work relating to health, disability, education, young people and social inclusion.
The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit when planning the Club’s activities and making decisions about charitable support.
4. Achievements and performance
During 2025/26, the Club combined local fundraising, direct volunteering and grant-making. The transaction history and accounts evidence the following activity:

Payments of £7,937 in donations and charitable support, including £5,000 for vision cameras, £1,000 for the :ions MD105 Baby Bag Ukraine appeal, and grants or gifts supporting a para-basketball player, a disabled trampolinist, Ravensknowle Children’s Gala, Dogs Trust, the Royal British Legion, local care homes and Christmas hampers.

Hosting and supporting international exchange students from other Lions Clubs.

Continuing the collection and handling of used spectacles for international redistribution, with over 50,000 pairs collected in the year..

Preparing for the 25th anniversary Brighouse Brass Band Contest, including attracting band entries and advertisers. Receipts classified to the contest totalled £6,858, while contest-related payments totalled £3,772 during the year.

Investing in practical equipment and materials to support future community and fundraising activity, including walkie-talkies, banners, high-visibility clothing and improvements to the Club’s catering caravan.

5. Financial review
The accounts record total receipts of £8,791 and total payments of £15,853, producing a net outflow of £7,062. Cash funds reduced from £32,031 at the start of the year to £24,969 at 30 June 2026. All funds are shown as unrestricted in the attached receipts and payments accounts.

Reserves policy
At 30 June 2026 the charity held £24,969 of unrestricted cash funds. The trustees seek to retain sufficient reserves to meet known commitments, protect the continuity of the Club’s activities and allow timely support for community needs. The level of reserves is reviewed in light of planned events, expected fundraising income and charitable commitments.
Principal risks and financial controls
The principal financial risks are lower-than-expected fundraising income, unexpected event costs and the need to maintain appropriate control over payments and reimbursements. The trustees manage these risks through collective oversight, use of charity bank accounts, retention of supporting records and review of the annual accounts.
6. Funds held and investment policy
The Club held cash across charity bank accounts, including HSBC, Barclays and United Trust Bank during the year. No investment assets or endowment funds are reported in the accounts. Bank interest of £134 was recorded.
7. Plans for future periods

Deliver the 25th anniversary Brighouse Brass Band Contest and seek to generate a surplus for charitable use.

Increase the Club’s visibility to attract new members and volunteers, supported by improved digital communications and recruitment materials.

Continue targeted support for local families, schools, young people, people with disabilities and international causes.
