additional support needs and their children
both generally and in relation to their social

The charity has established a national
occupational therapy service to meet the
needs of disabled parents and those
parents with additional support needs. Over
the past year we have received referrals
and enquiries from all over the country. We
also support a parent from Wales as well.
The charity has continued to provide
assessments, advice and information to
clients and professionals and signposted
them to local agencies as appropriate. This
has occurred**online for most cases.**
This model of practice will continue because
online working means that we can reach a
greater number of people and services and
work efficiently within COVID and
sustainability guidelines.
The Founder continues to be a member of
several Facebook groups as a disabled
parent. This means that she can pick up
queries or concerns of other disabled
mothers and pass on details of our website
and service and chat more informally about
possible solutions to issues raised by other
parents.
Also, other Occupational Therapists are
making enquiries to Enabled2Parent for
case discussions or making referrals to our
service. The range of referral sources is
also gradually increasing. These include
fertility clinics, local authorities, Perinatal
Occupational Therapists, medicolegal
experts, children’s and adult social workers,
midwives and social prescribers.

The charity’s founder has a wealth of
experience working with children with
additional needs over many years. This
means the charity can offer advice and
support to our parents and their families.|

This means the charity has been able to recognize and (with parental consent) advise on parental, child and/or professional concerns arising from the potential and actual special educational needs of the children of the parents in our care. The charity has also been invited to attend and participate in Child in Need Meetings and Child Protection conferences by various local authorities where the parents we are supporting have requested our help. This has meant we have been able to advocate for them and so empower them to have a greater understanding of the role they have as parents in maintaining the welfare of their children. In addition, Enabled2Parent provides shortand long-term support to parents. The charity will review progress with clients regularly and they can self-refer again if their needs change. The charity has also worked with other charities and organizations in the wider community to promote and address the needs and quality of life of the families we support. These include the Royal College of Occupational Therapy, Naidex, The Up Movement and the Voluntary Association for Arun and Chichester.

## **Achievements and Performance**

Sarah has also formed a working collaboration with
a company called OT Action. **This continued**
**throughout 2024/2025**This firm is based in
Exeter but serves veteran serviceman. Sarah
continues carry out assessments for equipment for
serviceman (based in Portsmouth) and the charity
SAFFA. This commenced in June 2023 and
**Enabled2Parent is paid £215 for each**
**assessment and completed 3 Assessments this**
**year.**
**Building Local Networks**
Enabled2Parent is regularly invited to attend local
council events and has been able to work with the
Voluntary Association for Arun and Chichester and
meet other charitable organizations in the local area
such as The Rotary Club, The Lions Club and
Sanctury, which provides volunteers in the local
area.
**Up Movement Collaboration for Cerebral Palsy**
**Week 6 -10 October 2025**
Enabled2Parent took part in a National Initiative
organized by Up Movement to showcase life with
cerebral palsy. Enabled2Parent provided advice
and information about adaptive strategies to parent
with CP to adults who are living with CP now.
**Support Groups**
The charity has established a new support group for
our beneficiaries to achieve greater
**social**
**inclusion**of our beneficiaries. This was piloted in
Sussex (with funding from the Sussex Community
Foundation, and as part of a collaboration with
Mosaic 1898 CIC.
However, the pilot was unsuccessful. Therefore, it
was decided to run a similar support group called
“Newborn to Nursery” on a National scale for new
mothers with children up to 2 years old living in
England and Wales.
Our Marketing Volunteer created a flyer which was
posted on all our social media platforms and the
group ran for six weeks online from the end of
September. Sarah also posted the flyer across her
own professional networks.
The group comprised 5 mothers who lived in West
Sussex, Birmingham, Derbyshire and Cardiff. The
subject matter covered the following topics:

Equipment & Adaptive Strategies to Care
for a Little One
Parenting with an Invisible Illness|

- Getting Out and About with a Little One
- Overcoming Negative Attitudes Plugging Into Peer Support
- The feedback that the charity received from the mothers that took part was very positive. They committed to attending each week and felt that they had experienced:
- An increase in confidence in the care of their infants
- A greater sense of validation as disabled mothers
- That it was an acceptable thing to parent with a disability
- They met and formed relationships with other disabled mothers like them
- They were encouraged to learn that they were no longer parenting in isolation
Another similar support group for new mothers will take place in February 2026. **Quarterly Newsletter for Beneficiaries** Sarah and Gemma, our new Marketing Volunteer, decided to write a quarterly Newsletter for our beneficiaries. The purpose of this was to keep them informed about developments in the charity and to explore a different theme for every edition. This would include a “Thought from the Founder” about the chosen topic which was about the Summer Holidays. The first edition was published in June 2025.
|It was decided to adopt the same framework each|

|Activities on the Beach and at Home. It is also a|
|useful platform to advertise forthcoming events and|
|some ideas for things to do on a lower budget.|
|Our first edition was published on Facebook and|
|Instagram and achieved a high level of engagement|
|on Facebook, so it was agreed to publish a second|
|edition in November entitled “Festive Fun.”|
|**Exhibition – Naidex - Disability Show NEC 18- 20**|
|**March 2025**|
|Enabled2Parent attended and exhibited at Naidex|
|in March 2025. The Board expressed some concern|
|about this venture given the high costs but|
|recognized the value it held of giving|
|Enabled2Parent vital exposure in the commercial|
|sector of the Disability Industry.|
|Sarah attended on behalf of Enabled2Parent and|
|met a wide range of professionals and companies|
|with connections with the parenting industry. She|
|was able to talk about the work of the charity with|
|fellow exhibitors and delegates, and she toured the|
|show seeking out new products, services and|
|opportunities
to
network
and
promote|
|Enabled2Parent across a range of professionals|
|and companies.|

|||||During the show, she made 52**contacts**and some
disabled parents who took further information away
with them about Enabled2Parent.
Due to this, it may be in the best interests of the
charity to fund Sarah’s attendance to exhibit at
Naidex and attend the Occupational Therapy Show
and Baby Show as a delegate only.
These costs will need to be reviewed each year and
decisions made about attendance (or not) according
to the resources of the charity.|

**Medico-Legal Instructions**
The charity received one medico-legal enquiry
this year which converted to instructions for
completion of Parenting Forecasts that integrate
the needs of the disabled parent and their child
between the ages of 0-2 years old. The charity
was paid for this case. This is an area of
practice that the charity wishes to develop over
the coming year.
**Advice Sheets About Disability and**
**Parenting**
The Board of Trustees reported that it was time
to develop a range of products and services
that could be sold to generate income for the
charity. Sarah compiled a list of topics
comprising 9 different subjects linked with
parenting with a disability. It is hoped that these
can be combined to form an E Book that can be
sold to parents and professionals via the charity
website.
**Governance Matters**

Strategy Meeting to review the charity Strategic
Plan. As a result of this, the charity started
recruiting for volunteers to assist with

The Board also took on additional trustees to

formal basis by signing a formal contract.

in jeopardy.

Safeguarding Trustee) to resign without a
thought for the stability or credibility of the
charity

This means that it continues to be very difficult
to fundraise or launch appeals asking them to
donate to our cause.**This is because our**
**parents are often on lower incomes and the**
**NHS and local authorities do not always**
**have a budget to fund our services.**The
**cost-of-living crisis**is also a significant factor
adding to an inability to donate by individuals
and organisations alike.
The General Public also do not choose to
donate funds to a disability charity.|

|Parliamentary Campaign||Enabled2Parent was contacted by the PA of a
disabled Member of Parliament in February
2025. Sarah was invited to attend a Summit in
Parliament in person in April 2025.
Sarah was asked to chair and contribute to
Round Table Discussions about the Maternity
Experiences of Disabled Mothers.
Many officials from a variety of government,
health and social care as well as many disabled
mothers from across the country also attended.
It was agreed to form a committee to inform and
co-produce material for the campaign.|

developing a medico-legal practice for disabled
parents involved in care proceedings, providing

risks facing the charity|Para 1.46|The beneficiaries of Enabled2Parent are
disabled parents and their families as well as
professionals working across all sectors.
This means that it is very difficult to fundraise or
launch appeals asking them to donate to our
cause. This is because they are often on lower
incomes and the NHS and local authorities do
not have a budget to fund our services.
Also, the founder continues to develop a new
area of practice within her profession the
awareness of which is growing slowly. She
remains the **only independent OT in the**
**country**providing services to disabled parents
and those with additional support needs.
This means that it will continue to be necessary
to adopt a more holistic approach that
encompasses
**clinical service provision,**
**marketing, and procurement as well as the**
**design and development of a wider range of**
**products and services that generate revenue**
**for the charity.**
It will now be necessary to apply for further
smaller grants to maintain and sustain our
activities moving forward.**This is because the**
**income streams are limited to small**
**numbers of medico-legal cases and paid**
**work from OT Action only.**
As in previous years, Enabled2Parent continues
to experience**attrition of Trustees for long**
**periods of the year**meaning that we cannot
make decisions to grow the charity consistently.
For this reason, the Founder took the view that
the focus should be to exhibit across the
country to raise awareness of Enabled2Parent
in as many locations as possible.
This has resulted in a significant spend that has
been counteracted with less clinical work and a
greater focus on forming a new Board and
addressing matters of governance for the latter
half of the year.
It is hoped that the new Board Members will be
able to lead the charity into new endeavours,
sustained operational and fiscal growth and to
provide innovative products and services for our
beneficiaries.||

in midwifery and psychology in March 2025.
Also, the new incoming trustees have
demonstrated a greater understanding of the
charity and its purposes, processes, policies
and practices.
They have given sound guidance about the way
ahead and continue to endorse new ideas
giving everyone a sense of renewed vigour,
optimism and hope.||
