Trustee Report
The Purpose
- The purpose of the Friends of Kididima is to support the school by facilitating the education and care for 300 - 350 very poor and needy children from the age of three years.
Overview of year
-
The charity has focused on increasing the number of sponsors and promoting the trust. We are meeting our objectives.
-
Guiding and Scouting remains very active at Kididima School
-
Five visits have been made to the school during the year
-
The trustees have held four meetings during the year via zoom.
-
Weekly zoom meetings have been held with two UK trustees the School Headmaster and when possible, a Kenyan Trustee.
-
Through donations received the trust has been able build a dining shelter
-
A team visited and created an outdoor play area for the playgroup class and decorated and fitted the indoor classroom with new tables, chairs and other teaching aids.
Sponsors
-
During the year the charity has recruited 38 new sponsors which means we have a total of 127 children being sponsored by UK supporters. We now have 127 children sponsored which has increased from the previous year.

The sponsored children have written to their sponsor to thank them for the support and sponsors received an end of year educational report about the child they support.

Two newsletters have been sent to all sponsors and supporters during the year.
-
We continue to purchase all the consumables i.e., cleaning materials, sanitiser etc and the provision of a tank to provide fresh drinking water.

We have been delighted to receive additional donations from some of our sponsors to enable us to support the teachers and children, with books, wall charts and teaching aids.
Education
-
Due to generous donors, we have been able to open Junior Secondary School (JSS) and now have Grade 7 & 8
-
Generous donors made it possible to purchase text books to enable good educational delivery.

The teaching staff has increased to cover teaching for JSS otherwise it remains stable which has a very positive impact on the school.

One teacher is enrolled onto the diploma courses in primary education

One teacher has completed the diploma courses in primary education

Two teachers have completed the Montessori Teacher training
-
National assessment tests have been carried out during the year and the students’ performance continues to improve.

The results from the Grade 6 examinations were the best that Kididima has recorded
-
The academic standards across the school continue to rise. This is in part due to the textbooks that we have been able to provide from donations and the new environments they are working in
-
Basic science equipment has been donated and this is making a massive difference to our learners and indeed the teachers
-
The first staff Team Building and Away Day was held which was very successful and if funds allow will become an annual event
-
A Basic First Aid and Life Support training was delivered to all staff at school. They all successfully completed a practical assessment. The training was delivered by a UK professional
-
Basic First Aid training was delivered to all leaners from grade 4 during the year by UK professionals
-
Oral Health Education was delivered to all children by a UK Professional
-
Various topics were delivered by a group of sponsors to different classes which included science. maths, preschool activities and English
-
A Sports day was held for all children and some children were able to join a school outing which they wrote about afterwards and we shared this with the sponsors

All teachers now have a laptop or access to a laptop. These remain the property of the trust
Support & Care

First Aid kits have been re-stocked and given to the school

We have continued to help the families with shoes or school uniform for their child when we are able to due to the generosity of our sponsors.

Fresh drinking water is provided for children daily

All sponsored children’s end of year reports were sent to their sponsors in November 2025

Public Relations

A local 10K Road race (of which we are part of the organising committee) went ahead and gave us the opportunity to promote support for the trust and raise our profile whilst raising funds.

A very successful Murder Mystery evening was held in November and raised much needed funds to allow us to do more for the school
Financial Review
Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities
Charity Law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for the financial year which gives a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and its financial activities for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
-
state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed
-
prepare the financial statements using the presumption that the charity will continue in operational existence
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
• Fundraising
The charity is enrolled for “Easyfundraising” and has invited sponsors and supporters to help us by using this.
Many sponsors agree to Gift Aid Claims being made which has been extremely beneficial
• Principal Funding Source
The principal funding source continues to be sponsorship and donations.
• Specific donations “Ring Fenced”
We have funds in hand which have been donated specifically for a new cooker for the kitchen. Thes funds have been “restricted”

Responsibilities and basis of report
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/12/2025.
As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
Independent Examiner’s statement
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or
-
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
