Taste of Africa Northeast 2021-2022
In 2021-2022 the charity was able to deliver some of its core activities even though limited due partially to Covid lock down.
The charity was able to deliver the following activities

A virtual youth awards was organised to celebrate achievement of black youths in and promote positive role models in the community. The event was aimed at encouraging black youths to strive for the best and re write their own stories. The event was presented and managed by young people.

Also the annual Taste of Africa showcase was delivered as a virtual event engaging various local and regional artists in the celebration of Black History Month.

The charity also continued to work with young people through organised virtual empowerment program which enable them to participate in the delivery of the virtual events.

Developed partnerships/collaborations with key organisations to enable the delivery of our annual events and activities going forward post Covid. Engaged a key partner for the delivery of future cultural activities.
Plans for the future:
We aim to develop the capacity of the charity by developing partnerships and programs that will empower the community and promote community cohesion and integration in the Northeast.

Establish a network for black artists and in the Tees Valley that will promote visibility of local artist and provide opportunities for development and collaborations.

Charity hopes to develop and establish a beauty pageant focused on beyond the face for young black women. The aim of this initiative is to empower young black girls to be proud of their skin and address the stereotype of beauty pageant.

Charity hopes to develop ambassadors for the charity to promote its activities.

The charity hopes to develop the capacity of charity to enable it deliver the activities that are needed for the community. To do this the charity will continue to develop relevant partnerships in the community that will support the delivery of its activities.

The charity was incorporated on 11 August 2020.

The charity is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 for the period ended 31 August 2022.
The Trustees considered that an Independent Examiner’s Report is appropriate for the charity’s financial statements for the period ended 31 August 2022 in accordance with the provisions of charities Act 2011.
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for:

(a) ensuring that the charity keeps accounting records which comply with Sections 132(1) of the Charities Act 2011 and
-
(b) preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity as at the end of each financial year and of its income and expenditure for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charity.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies and with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015).

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
1. STATUTORY INFORMATION
Taste of Africa (North East) is a charity registered in England and Wales. The charity's registered number and registered office address can be found on the Charity’s Information page.
2. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" including the provisions of Section 1A "Small Entities" and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
Income is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes.
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
