**awards**to support student**qualitative**
research projects on diabetes/CVD care in
ethnically diverse populations.

Qualitative methods could further benefit
our understanding of the human experience
of diabetes and interventions to address it,
especially in ethnically diverse
communities. However, research suggest
there has been limited use of qualitative| ||||methods in diabetes research over the past
30 years.

Thus, the charity aimed to support student
qualitative dissertations (UGR, PGR) that
address patient experience and diabetes
management. Qualitative methods can
provide important insights about socio-
cultural aspects of diabetes to improve
disease management.

**Small Grant Award**

Each student would receive up to £100
which can be used to pay a few (e.g.,10 to
20) individuals to participate in one-to-one
interviews and/or one or more focus group
sessions (online or face-to-face). The
money could also be used for other light
expenses, such as covering transportation
(e.g., petrol, bus, train) costs to conduct
interviews/focus groups outside LJMU
premises, paying some interviewees to
participate in follow-up
feedback/verification, or even buying a few
refreshments to facilitate a small focus
group.

**Eligibility**

Funding was available for up to**four**LJMU
(Liverpool John Moores University)
students, each of whom can be awarded up
to £100. To be eligible students must meet
the following eligibility criteria.

a. Be a student at LJMU
b. Undergraduate students must have
completed Level 5 with at least a 2-
1 overall grade (> 60%) and
currently be doing a Level 6
qualitative project on diabetes or
CVD targeting ethnically diverse
groups.
c. Postgraduate students must have
obtained at least a 2-1 degree
classification at undergraduate
level, and currently be doing an
MSc (or PhD) qualitative project on
diabetes or CVD targeting ethnically
diverse groups.
