However, research suggest<br>there has been limited use of qualitative|





||||methods in diabetes research over the past<br>30 years.<br> <br>Thus, the charity aimed to support student<br>qualitative dissertations (UGR, PGR) that<br>address patient experience and  diabetes<br>management. Qualitative methods can<br>provide important insights about socio-<br>cultural aspects of diabetes to improve<br>disease management.<br> <br>**Small Grant Award**<br> <br>Each student would receive up to £100<br>which can be used to pay a few (e.g.,10 to<br>20) individuals to participate in one-to-one<br>interviews and/or one or more focus group<br>sessions (online or face-to-face). The<br>money could also be used for other light<br>expenses, such as covering transportation<br>(e.g., petrol, bus, train) costs to conduct<br>interviews/focus groups outside LJMU<br>premises, paying some interviewees to<br>participate in follow-up<br>feedback/verification, or even buying a few<br>refreshments to facilitate a small focus<br>group.<br> <br>**Eligibility**<br> <br>Funding was available for up to**four**LJMU<br>(Liverpool John Moores University)<br>students, each of whom can be awarded up<br>to £100. To be eligible students must meet<br>the following eligibility criteria.<br> <br>a. Be a student at LJMU<br>b. Undergraduate students must have<br>completed Level 5 with at least a 2-<br>1 overall grade (> 60%) and<br>currently be doing a Level 6<br>qualitative project on diabetes or<br>CVD targeting ethnically diverse<br>groups.<br>c. Postgraduate students must have<br>obtained at least a 2-1 degree<br>classification at undergraduate<br>level, and currently be doing an<br>MSc (or PhD) qualitative project on<br>diabetes or CVD targeting ethnically<br>diverse groups.<br>**Awards Granted**<br> <br>No grants were awarded in the 2023/2024<br>period due to lack of eligibility.|
