Structure, Governance and Management

Nature of governing document

Youth With a Mission England is a registered charity, number 1190772, and was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation under a constitution dated 7th August 2020 and amended 15th March 2024.

Recruitment and appointment of trustees

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the trustees elected and co-opted under the terms of the constitution.

Achievements and Performance

We are grateful for the Lord's faithfulness to all who serve in YWAM England to sustain us and our partner ministries and charities. We continue to be in a time of change, and being a missional organisation, we are as prepared as we can be for the future, whatever shape it takes and where the Lord leads us.

Aims and objectives

The objects of the charity are:

  1. To advance the Christian faith worldwide by, but not exclusively, teaching of the Bible, worship and praise, evangelism, study, prayer, children and youth works and community service.

  2. To relieve poverty both in the UK and overseas by any means such as acts of service, gifts, donations, contributions, loans and advances with or without interest

  3. To advance training in accordance with Christian Biblical principles in England, elsewhere in the United Kingdom and overseas as the trustees may from time to time think fit

  4. To fulfil such other purposes which are connected to the charitable work of the Charity as the Trustees from time to time shall determine

Operational Leadership

The Trustees of YWAM England are: John Braithwaite (Chair), Anne Sloan, Allen Anjo, John Peachey, Rob Hobbs, Giacomo Coghi and Edwin Fillies.

Carol Hatton is convening the safeguarding Advisory Team for YWAM England.

Sarah Opper continues to monitor the Visa regulations and visit daughter charities to audit good practice and compliance with legislation.

Penny Griggs continues to be a welcome visitor to our Board Meetings and provides accounting and administrative support for YWAM England.

Catherine de Freitas remains our Secretary and supports the board at meetings and AGMs.

Review of Activities

Currently, there are 7 established partner charities: YWAM Derby, YWAM Harpenden, YWAM Holmsted Ministries, YWAM Kausar, YWAM The Kings Lodge, YWAM Urban Key and YWAM York

And there are smaller team plants in Carlisle, Cornwall, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Luton, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and Thanet

Across England, we continue run schools across including Discipleship Training Schools, Schools of Ministry and Leadership Development, Bible Core Courses, Schools of Biblical Studies, Foundations in Counselling Ministry, Schools of Digital Filmmaking, Schools of Acting for the Screen and the School of Biblical Worldview as well as courses in English Cultural Orientation, Christian Formation & Discipleship and facilitating overseas training through Year for God.

After a year committed to exploring if a large enough team could be established to maintain YWAM missions from Holmsted Manor, in June 2025 the decision was taken to sell the property.

Holmsted Manor was the first permanent location for YWAM in England and has left an astonishing legacy of mission that spans the globe. A celebration is planned in early October to express our gratitude for all YWAMers who passed through Holmsted, as staff, on DTS, or serving in other ways.

At the beginning of May 2025 the leaders of YWAM Forge Nottingham decided to close the charity, and we wish them well in their future missions and are grateful for their service to YWAM.

Select Location Updates and Year Highlights

Many YWAM teams in England have supported The Send igniting a passion for the Lord in thousands of young people’s lives. There have been a wide number of events and gatherings in 2025 with two larger arena dates at the end of the year planned for London and Cardiff. Out of the Send there are small groups of dedicated, prayerful believers being established across the UK, with a target to set up over one thousand in the near future. The report from the Bible Society of a quiet revival and increase in churchgoing, particularly in younger believers, is a part of this wave. We are grateful to play a part in this exciting new wave and look forward to partnering into 2026.

YWAM Kings Lodge have had an exciting year. They ran schools for Word & Worship with outreaches in Italy & Brazil. Sent a Roots DTS to outreach in Indonesia. They have also held English for Missions, Chronological Bible Core Course and a School of Biblical Studies. They ran again a very popular Winter Wonderland event with over six hundred local attendees and strong community engagement. They hosted the filming of a Cunningham Sisters production and a Shine Event with three hundred participants from across Europe & Internationally. Locally they have supported a summer holiday club in Birmingham. They joined the Paris Je t’Aime outreach with YWAM Paris Connect and connected with evangelistic events in Coventry, Nuneaton, Hinckley and Leicester. They also took part in The Send Experience night in Leicester.

YWAM Derby continues to build local, national and international missions. They partnered with three local churches for English classes through the Bible, hosted Open House gatherings on Tuesdays and Fridays, celebrated 3–4 baptisms each month and offered ongoing spiritual growth in the community. They provide safe spaces for refugees and locals to share, play games, and build friendship. There have been community events for example firework nights, Christmas parties, Good Friday, Lights Party and family trips with their underprivileged kids’ cooking and creative clubs continuing to grow. A new initiative was the launch of “Big Breaky” which offered free breakfast and lunch during school holidays. The Hope City Furniture Project supports up to four families weekly through the year and the Manna Ministries, and Café 3:16 provides meals for the homeless and marginalised, they are also active in Mercy ministries, prison outreach, and Carpenters Arms recovery work.

They remain heavily involved in an international anti-human trafficking network expanding outreach to boys and families, not just women and girls. Internationally they participated in the Bosnia gathering, Morocco prevention workshops and the Michigan task force for awareness and prevention.

YWAM Harpenden have had a busy year, with a diverse range of ministries supported by about one hundred and twenty staff on site. The DTS Schools are still going strong and sending outreach to diverse places such as Thailand, Cuba, Jordan and Peru. There are signs of growth and the aim is for two hundred and fifty participants for the coming year. The Bible Core Course is also growing and becoming more established. The Kinahan Lodge is now hosting events and has become a magnet for missions

and partnerships with other organisations. The Cafe still brings in a steady flow of visits from the local community as well as serving the staff and students and, with local support, there are a number of local events in the calendar: Apple Fest is still very popular, but there are also school visits, young life leader trainings, the Brampton open day, Kona Dance Camp, Thrive Outside to name a few. The Advocacy and Justice mission is also developing a network of connections through YWAM internationally.

YWAM Revive opened their new Roehampton Revival Hub in September 2024, have hosted six worship nights, collaborated with different worship leaders in London and have seen non-believers coming to faith through their ministry. They opened a Prayer Room in May and have been serving The Send through outreaches and experience nights as well as attending The Send Scotland and Belfast. They have mobilised to Evangelism helping over fifty people share Jesus for the first time and had a number of special partnerships in place during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships with YWAM Pittsburg, Harpenden, Love All Serve All and Full Gospel Church. They support three London Youth Groups with discipleship, evangelism training and mission and are running Youth Alpha with South West Vineyard Church. They have received DTS team from USA, Mexico, Norway and other areas of the UK and are currently partnering with eight churches in Merton for a Great Gospel Giveaway to distribute 1,000 bibles to local homes.

YWAM York has sold the Barnabas Centre and have now moved to work with university students in the Tang Hall neighbourhood. They host a lunch for students after church on a Sunday and are establishing a drop in for uni students on a Wednesday evening. This summer they partnered with local churches to help university students to do social action and evangelism projects: training in the morning, evangelism and social action projects in the afternoons, and a hang out in the evenings. They worshipped, prayed, had a fire pit in the garden and spent time together. Many drop in spontaneously, and they have organised open house times. The hope is that this grows into a Bible study for those who are Christian and want to go deeper with God.

YWAM Immerse Report hosted Circuit Riders outreach, where they ran a large worship evening for people from around Cornwall. They held a Youth Camp in February hosting 70 young people from Wildfire and DTS teams. In the summer they supported Shine at The Kings Lodge which had three hundred people, and sent fourteen outreach teams. Some of the team served at Creationfest, a large Christian festival held each summer in Cornwall. The festival sees over 3000 attend daily. They also served in the prayer tent over the long weekend. Eden’s Joy, the creation care ministry continues to grow, reaching out to those who struggle and can not afford to look after their garden or green spaces as a short term project. The pop up pottery ministry continues to use creativity to build community and encourage those who struggle with their mental health. Members of our team serve weekly with three different churches in kids and youth ministries as well as our team leading church services and kids church and serving in a local Cafe and with food banks.

YWAM Kausar London continues to support refugees in London and persecuted Punjabi Christians through an online extension course for Punjabi-speaking pastors and young people. They are actively involved in the End Bible Poverty projects and are seeking to produce the second Urdu Gospel as well as an Arabic version.

In YWAM Thanet in the last year ministry life was very busy and their projects grew. They continue to serve at David’s Tent and locally have other partnerships with Worship 24-7 Network Thanet, Tehilla Prayer House, St Luke’s Church Ramsgate & The Vale URC. Lucy & Beulah have also continued to be part of the Thanet wide pastors fraternity group. The team has worked to invite the local church to join us in corporate times of prayer and intercession, including our monthly event Celebrate the Nations and a National Week of Prayer for Thanet. Thanet continues to run free English classes and a Conversation Cafe, which expanded to thirty five regular learners, from more than ten nations, within four learning levels.

At YWAM Newcastle exciting things have happened in the city and they are seeing more teams of young YWAMers come to our city to inspire younger generations to follow Jesus and make Him known.

In Liverpool YWAM has strengthened relationships with local churches and provided evangelism training to around four hundred people in partnership with local churches. They have held monthly community nights and have reached non-believers exploring answers. God is moving in the lives of the marginalized, and the team supports a group that serves those on the streets and runs an Alpha course.

YWAM Carlisle continues to reach out to men (& women occasionally) on motorbikes and regular rideouts. Motorbikes are a great tool to come alongside the lost. Through testimony & the 'Biker Bible' are some of the 'handouts' given away for further thought and retreats support those exploring faith as well as having made commitments.

YWAM England is grateful for all the continued activity that all our staff and volunteers are involved in throughout England and to the nations. The Lord has been faithful and so many lives are being impacted for the better.

Governance, Appointments and Finance

Appointment of Members

We held our most recent AGM on Zoom on 1 April 2025 where we could appoint members in line with our constitution.

Appointment of New Trustees

John Braithwaite was re-nominated as a trustee for the next three years.

Financial review

In 2024-25 We received a total of £15,790. Income from bases rose from last year to £12,988, as some locations missed their annual donation in the previous year and gave more this time round. Donations from individuals were £2,430. Given that all donations and gifts are voluntary, we are grateful for all the support we have received which helps us serve the Partner Charities.

Our total expenditure was £8,651, which is down slightly on the previous year. Our communications and marketing was down to £1,884 which is the main difference between the two years, yet we maintained a significant presence across a range of summer events as well as through The Send and local missions. We keep in touch with supporters through a digital newsletter and also have a range of marketing materials to hand for locations to use from banners and stands to flyers and stickers.

The other expenditure was £2,740 on safeguarding, £2,500 on legal fees and £798 on insurance. The remainder was spent on office costs, trustee meeting expenses, travel, staff care and bookkeeper fees.

We ran a surplus of £7,139 for 2024-5 which reversed the previous years’ loss and with cash reserves of £53,773, and low operational costs, we are confident that we remain in a healthy financial position for a charity.

Policy on Reserves

We have maintained healthy reserves to ensure unexpected expenses can be covered, or times when there is a slowdown in income streams. Given the fixed cost of operating YWAM England is approximately £8,000 per annum, it is reasonable to ensure we have at least three years in cash funds (£24,000) before needing to take action to seek additional funding sources.

We currently have no funds in deficit and have a healthy end-of-year balance.

Principal source of funding

We are grateful for the donations we have received in contributions from other YWAM partner charities in England that benefit from the work done by Youth With A Mission England.

YWAM England’s Mission

To promote the work of YWAM, we had a presence at several select summer events and Christian festivals, serving on their teams, and continuing to build relationships with young and old interested in missional work.

As YWAM England we continue to seek shared support and collaboration between the sister charities across the country to raise the profile of YWAM, to increase engagement with young people, and maintain connections with YWAM Alumni.

As we look ahead to 2026 and beyond we are also committed to supporting The Send beyond 2026, and to continue to mobilise young Christians and to encourage them to future missions.
