**STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

## **Board of Trustees**

The Board of Trustees sets our future aims and priorities focusing on strategic planning and governance and also evaluates our performance and progress in our work to alleviate poverty and suffering.

The Board of Trustees appraises the Senior Management Team and can make appointments to it as well as dismissals. The Board of Trustees also make sure that we satisfy the regulatory requirements on us as a charity and works with key stakeholders.

## **Recruiting and Appointing Trustees**

All our trustees are volunteer, chosen because they all have the diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience that we need to respond to the challenges of today. Stakeholders and partners may nominate trustees and sometimes we will make a personal approach to potential candidates.

## **Governing document**

Al Medina 313 refers to the charity incorporated organisation with a governing document known as CIO Association by foundation originally incorporated on 07 August 2020.

## **Responsibilities of Trustees**

The annual report and financial statements are prepared according to the relevant law and approved by the trustees.

The trustees keep adequate accounting records and they show and explain our transactions. The records also disclose our financial position with reasonable accuracy at any time and enable trustees to ensure that the financial statements comply with Charity Commission Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2015.

## **Grant Making Policies**

We provide grants to projects if the request meets our charitable objectives and criteria. Project grant making is managed according to a designated process, which is documented in our Operational Risk-Management Framework. We aim to treat all grant applications professionally, equally and fairly. We make the final decision as to eligibility to receive a grant, at our discretion.

## **Public Benefit**

We develop strategic plans to make certain that we provide maximum public benefit and achieve our strategic objectives, which fall under purposes defined by the Charity Act 2006.

3

**Objectives and Strategic activities**

The objects of the charity are set below:

- A) To advance the religion of Islam by means of but not exclusively, promoting the teachings and tenets of Islam, provision or assistance in the provision of facilities for worship and Islamic education in accordance with the teachings of Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) as interpreted by the Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jammah school of thought.

**Summary of the main activities and achievements undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects of the charity during the year.**

**To promote health:** safe water, clean hands, and healthy bodies. Dirty water equates to sickness, sickness is time lost, this is reduced, and people can get back to the work of lifting themselves out of poverty.

**To relieve hunger:** access to water leads to food security. With less crop loss, hunger is reduced. Families can feed themselves, reducing living costs.

**To relieve poverty:** water can break the cycle of poverty. The communities we serve are ready to grow, they grow through our help and guidance.

**To provide for wherever there is the most need:** helping the neediest in the quickest time possible, relieving one struggle of many.

4

This year, the Al Medina 313 achieved success in the following projects:

## **QURBANI**

Qurbani means sacrifice. Every year during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – a goat, sheep, cow or camel – to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of God. For many impoverished families, Eid alAdha is the only time of year they will benefit from nutritious meals with meat. In 2021, We, at Al Medina, sacrificed a total of 7 sheep/goats in Pakistan, Syria & Yemen.

5

## **HUNGER**

After steadily declining for a decade, world hunger is on the rise, **affecting 9.9 percent of people globally** . From 2019 to 2020, the number of undernourished people grew by as many as 161 million, a crisis driven largely by conflict, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The solution to combatting hunger seems simple — **get food to people in need when they need it.**

Al Medina is fighting it’s share in combatting hunger in areas hit with severe poverty in Pakistan, Uganda, Syria & Palestine.

6

## **Water**

Water scarcity is defined as a water deficiency or a lack of safe water supplies. As the population of the world grows and the environment becomes further affected by climate change, access to fresh drinking water dwindles.

Globally, 785 million people lack access to clean drinking water. Every day, over 800 children die from dirty water, due to diarrhea caused by poor water, sanitation and hygiene and scarce or unreliable water and sanitation facilities in many communities around the world. These facts make us play our Part in trying to solve the Water Crisis in the areas where we can have a reach. Till date, Al-Medina has installed over 600 water facilities which include Wells and tube Wells in different parts of Pakistan and Uganda which is benefitting hundreds of poor people in impoverished areas.

7

## **Achievements and Performance**

We have sacrificed 7 sheep/goats on 2021 Qurbani and distributed the Qurbani meat in over 100 families which benefitted 300 individuals directly. This led to joy as well as support to these families who received the meat for the Eid.

In these testing times of Covid-19 pandemic, we have tried to get to most needy people with food packs in Pakistan, Syria, Uganda and Palestine. As many as 1000 individuals benefitted.

We have managed to install around 600 water facilities including wells and tube wells, this has transformed the lives of many communities.

This was all possible with the support of our donors who contributed towards this cause.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINERS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 07 AUG 2020 TO 06 AUG 2021 TO THE TRUSTEES**

I report on the accounts for the period 07[th] August 2020 to 06[th] August 2021 set out below.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for the period (under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is required.

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:

- Examine the accounts

- Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act); and

- To state weather particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of the independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiners statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- (1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements have not been met;

or

- (2) To which. In my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
