Apart from excursions associated with any particular interest groups, most of the activities organised
by A&Du3a members take place in and around Ashbourne in the Derbyshire/Staffordshire l)order

¥ements and erformance
Set out below 15 the report made by A&Du3a's Chair IS E Hall) to its recent AGM (10th April 20261..
"l am delighted to present myfirst Choirs Report oftersuch afantostic yearfor Ashbourne & Distrirt
u3u in 2025/26. During the year we have ht7d an unprecedented numberof new members join us
more than one hundred andfifty. This is an amazing orowth record comingfrom the work of the
Committee, ensuring we run efficiently and effectively, but most significantlyfrom the leaders of the
fifv-five or more gn7UPS thot we now have. There is o great mix of established ond new artivities and
o reol strength of ourorganisation.
During the year we hove been delighted to welcome new groups including Travel. Quiz. 5ponish.
Woodcraft, Bridge, Petanque (Friday), Bridgeforlmpmvers, Kurling (Monday), Padel ond Kurling
(Wednesdayj.
This growth in rnembership and ortivities hos not been os o result of o publicity drive but through
n7embers' enjoyment of what they t7re doing ond informingfriends and others about the great mnge
of t7ctivitie5 available, bocked up with o very successful social media presence. particularly on
Facebook. The number of 'likes'for our Facebook report5 ond the imoge5 of happy. smiling people is
amazing and our bestform of publicity. It is seen by countless nurnbers of people in the local
Community. The 'New Members Drop In, each month has olso been a great success enabling anyone
who is interested tofind out more obout whot we do. With record turnouts at these dropins sofor
this year, this bode5 wellfor thefuture.
Because it hos been a yeor of considerable growth, we ore in a securefinonciol position. Our reserves
are ot a higher level than is required to run our u3a and os a result the Committee has decided to
duce membership subscription5for the next yeor as reported on by our Treasurer. This posltion will
be reviewedforfvture years.
I hove much enjoyed being port of Ashboume u3ofvr the last eight years ond porticulorly this lost
twelve months. Mypersonal highlights include thefir5t venture by the Travel Group. l also ret711y
enjoy being the publicity lead and going round the various groups seeing their activities ond
enthusiasm and toking lots of pirtures of people1¢7ughing.
At thi5 point I would like recogni5e the unstinting 5UPPQrt we have hodfmm Alan Keizer. who is

Income &
endlture and r
The accounts of A&Du3a in each financial year ending on 31" December are prepared on a receipts &
payments basis li.e. non-accrual basis) and receipts and payments pass through bank accounts
A&Du3a TAR 2025

A&Du3a's name. These accounts have been subject to independent examination by professional
attountsnts and no matters of concern have been reported thereon.
In the year ended 31" December 2025, the total income of A&Du3a was £55,74512024: £43,261) and
its expenditure wa5 £51.229 12024= £39.5511. As at the year end. accumulated assets comprised
£18,084 12024.. £13,359), of which £6,125 represented balances attributed to tts various interest
groups, leaving a balance of £11,959 by way of non%roup or 'central' funds held as cash at bank and
with no significant payments outstanding.
Members, annual subscriptions cover two rnain areas.. lil a capitation fee payable to the u3a
rnovement's central body. The Third Age Trust, based on membership numbers in the previous year
and payable in April and lill A&Du3a's general adrninistration costs. In 2025, the capitation fee paid
by A&Du3a was £2,920 and provides services such as insurance cover. IT and accounting provision and
general oversight by The Third Age Trust.
The organisation is therefore in a strong firbancial p0s6tion. Its non-group related incorne 15 largely
derived from mefnbership fee5 and its non-group outgoings lother than payments due to The Third
Age Trust) are mainly administration costs and fees, and general or multi-group meeting costs. Each
of its various interest groups is experted to match its expenditure with its income li.e. each group is
self-sufficient and not'centrally, supported by the general funds of A&Du3al- The main financial risks
which A&Du3a face are a significant and unexperted increase in the Cost of its affiliation to The Third
Age Trust and/or a rapid falling-off of A&Du3a membership, neither of which are anticipated to arise
in the short to medium term.
In the light of this financial position and the reserves available to A&Du3a to cover its '¢entral' costs.
the trustees have ieviewed their approach to reserves. They have concluded that it should adopt
reserves policy which aims to maintain its reserves at approximate￿ equivalent to one year's 'central'
expenditure and capitation fee, plus a further nominal amount of £2,000 to meet any capital
expenditure which might from time to time be required le.g. for ￿ or presentation
equipmentlsoftwarel.
As at the present date. A&Du3a's reserves exceed this target amount. The trustees have therefore
decided that, for the time bein& it will reduce mernbership fees so that such fees cover only the costs
of its affiliation to The Third Age Trust land any individual 'Third Age Matters, 5ubscriptionsl. It seems
to the trustee5 that this is a fair and reasonable way to apply the surplus reserves to the benefit of its
members as a whole. The impact of this decision will be reviewed each year until the reserves come
into better alignment with the policy.
A&Du3a does not hold any funds as a custodian trustee.
