## **Trustees’ Annual Report for 2021**

## **H O Roe Charity**

## **Charity Registration number 1190706**

**Address:** 61 Church Road, Stotfold, Hitchin SG5 4NE

## **Trustees:**

Revd William Britt Stephen Hardman Jennifer Bennett

## **Structure & Management**

The H O Charity was registered as a CIO Foundation on 3 August 2020. Its trustees are the Vicar and two Churchwardens of St Mary the Virgin, the Church of England Parish Church in Stotfold, Bedfordshire. The H O Roe Charity is the governing body. It is assisted in the day-to-day running a community centre called the Roecroft Centre and the maintenance of a residential rental property at 97 Church Road by H O Roe Management Committee, which consists of the three Trustees of the H O Roe Charity, plus a treasurer, secretary and an appointed member, who are all appointed by the Trustees.

## **Activities and objectives in 2021**

For 38 years a separate, non-church charity, the Roecroft Centre Charitable Trust, admirably managed the Roecroft Centre but had to hand over running the centre and close its charity due the advanced age and failing health of its trustees.

The H O Roe Charity began managing the Roecroft Centre on 1 January 2021. In 2021, a year in which bookings didn’t resume until May due to Covid and where rental activity was still significantly limited, 23 individual groups rented the Roecroft Centre for community clubs and activities.

The H O Roe Charity has employed an architect to develop plans to give the former Victorian school an entrance, internal floors and toilets accessible to the disabled and to add a kitchen. Planning permission has been granted and the Trustees are currently applying for grants.

## **Financial Review:**

Our total income for 2021 of £18,826 was down because there was almost no hire income from the Roecroft Centre in the first half of 2021 due to Covid restrictions. On the expenditure side, there were two large one-off payments relating to the replacement of the heating system of the residential property and architects fees for drawing up plans for refurbishment of the Roecroft Centre. Expenditure exceed income by £5,433. We ended the year with reserves of £96,330.
