The objects of the CIO are:

“To further or benefit of the inhabitants of Abbey Hulton ("the area of benefit") without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race, age, disability, nationality, or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants, the registered social landlord (RSL) and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social

welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power: to establish, or secure the establishment of, or otherwise acquire, a community centre ("the centre") and to maintain and manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any local authority or other person or body) in furtherance of these objects.”

The CIO is based in the heart of Abbey Hulton, an area of deprivation. We intend to operate and maintain a small community centre with a garden and run activities and events aimed to improve the mental and physical well-being of people in the area and build cohesion in our community.

The Trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission Guidance on public benefit in directing the work of the charity.

Achievements and performance

We have managed to put on events for the local residents of Abbey Hulton including 2 seasonal events which are our “Christmas Lights Switch On event” and our “Easter event”.

We were able to engange with local children through our Awakening Event, which was in collaboration with the B-Arts project.

At the start of 2025, with help from our local housing association Clarion, the Sutton Trust Community Group became a Wellbeing Spaces, which means our centre will be open 6 days as a warm space with free tea and toast. Host a weekly coffee morning supported by various agencies and continue our community kitchen offering free soup and a pantry with slow cookers, recipe books, food, blankets etc to assist during the cost of living & winter crises.

Our city Stoke-on-Trent celebrated 100 years of getting city status and with that we are able to celebrate with our city with other community groups to put on the 100 Years of Stoke-onTrent Centenary city wide tea party.
