## Introduction to the Llwydcoed band Llwydcoed band are a brass band based in a small village just north of Aberdare South Wales. The band was formed in 1912 by members of the local football team. Over the intervening years the band have had many ups and downs but are now enjoying their most successful period in their 109 year history. We are currently ranked 5th in Wales and 40th in the world rankings. Members of the band come together with a sole purpose of making music and enjoying each other’s company. ## Aims. Llwydcoed band aims are to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education and appreciation of the art of brass band music in all its aspects by playing of public brass band contests and concerts, tuition in the playing of brass instruments and by other ways that the band determines from time to time. ## Review of the year. The band began the year, as many organisations, in lockdown. During the period of lockdown, the band held weekly online rehearsals, where we were able to interact with fellow band members by means of musical rehearsal and general conversation etc. We also had a few guest evenings where renowned musicians would join us for Q&A sessions. Many found these evenings very helpful for our mental healthy and stability during these very difficult and unprecedented times. It wasn’t until May 2021 that the band were able to meet in person for rehearsals again. This was subject to a covid - 19 Risk assessment. The band were able to start rehearsals outdoors using bell covers which were provided, social distancing was observed, and hand sanitizer provided. Thanks to our friends from a Church in Merthyr Tydfil who let us use their car park. The bands first public engagement was October 2021 where we were privileged to play at the National Brass Band finals of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, the first time in the bands history. The band also played at the local Christmas concert in December 21 this was our first concert back after Covid - 19 where our junior band also took part. ## Going forward - 2022 The band will start back contesting in March and will start again our community work. The Llwydcoed organisation also incorporates a Community band which will endeavour to teach music to children and adults alike. With a long term goal for some of those to progress into the senior band. We plan to provide music for the local community events in 2022- Praise in the park / Churches together Remembrance service/ Royal British legion Llwydcoed cenotaph service Llwydcoed band 110 anniversary concert Christmas community Carol concert Christmas music in local stores, town centre and local businesses. In addition to continue to provide music for the above events , together with new requests that may come our way, we would like to add 2 to new local concerts to our programme. The purpose of these concerts is to spread the word that Brass band music is very much alive in the Aberdare/Cynon valley. We will endeavour to provide free tuition for young and not so young of the community. **----- Start of picture text -----**
