Recognition of
expenditure
E¥penditure on
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis. Expenditure includes any VATwhiih cannot be fully
recovered, and is ￿ ported as part of the expenditure to which it relates.

Expenditure on
Grants payable
All grant expenditure is accounted for on an actu31 paid basis plus an accru31 for grants th3t h3ve been
approved by the trustees at the end ofthe year but not yet paid.
Govemance costs
These Include those costs assoclared wlth meetlng rhe constltutional and statutory reqJlrements of
the Charity, including any auditlindependent examination fees, costs linked to the strategic management of the Charity,
together with a share of other administration cost5.
Other expenditure
These are 5UPPOrt costs not allocated to a particular activity.

The ch3rity is exemptfrom tax on its charitable activities.
Freehold inve￿ment property
Invesrment properties are measured Initi?Ily ar cost and subsequently at fair value It e¥ch balance sheet date and are not
depreciated. All gains or losses are taken to the Statement of Fin3ncial Activitie5 a5 they arise.
Stocks
5to¢k is Included at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Donated items of stock are re¢ognised at fair value which is the
amount the charity would have been willing to pay for the items on the open market.
Trade and other debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised ar the settlemenr amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are
valued atthe amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
Cash and tash equivalerfs
Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits wirh banks and other short-term hlghly
liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less and bank overdrafts. In the statement of financial
position, bank overdraft5 are shown within borrowings or current liabilities. In the Statement of Cash Flows, cash and cash
equivalent5 are shown net of bank overdraft5 that are repayable on dernand and form an integral part of the coTnpany's cash
management.
Trade and other creditors
Shortterm creditors are measured at the transaction price. Other creditor5 and provisions are reco8n15ed where the charity
hès è present obligation resulting from a past èvènt that will probèbly result in the transferof funds to è third party ènd the
amount due to settle the obligation can be me8sJred or estimated reliably. Crediiors and provisions are normally recognised
attheir settlement amount after allowing for any trade discount5 due.

the rate5 of exchange prevailing atthe end of the reporting period.
Transactions in ¢urren¢ies other than the functional currency of the charity are recorded at the rate of exchange on the date
that the transaction occurred.

Leased assets
Where the charity enters Inio a lease which entails taking subst¥ntially all the risks and rewards of ownership of an asset. the
lease istreated as a finance lease.

Pension cost5
The charity opèrate5 a defined contribution plan for its employees. A defined cantribution plan is a pension plan under
which the charity pays fixed contributions into a separate entlty. Once the Contributions have been paid the charity has no
further p3yments obligations. The contributions are recognised as expenses when they fall due. Amounts not paid are shown
in 3ccrua15 in the balance sheet. The asset5 of the plan are held separatelyfrom the charity in independently administered
funds.

of the value to the charity.
