Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

During this year, the Fforestfach Scout Group (“the Group”) have worked tirelessly to ensure that the grounds of the Headquarters and this inside are fit for use by young people. Due to COVID-19, this has been a longer exercise than we would have hoped, however, with the building work nearing completion on the updated kitchen and toilet facilities, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The Group has gained 2 additional Leaders, and as a result, has extended its’ reach to the ages of 11 – 14 years of age by starting up a Scout Troop. Comparing the numbers of young people served by the Group to April 2020, (12 Beaver Scouts and 14 Cub Scouts – 26 young people in total) there are now 22 Beaver Scouts, 24 Cub Scouts, and 10 Scouts (56 young people in total) – with approximately 20+ young people of varying ages on the waiting list.

Activities have been somewhat limited due to the COVID-19 lockdown conditions, but the sections (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts) have met every week on “Zoom” when we were prohibited from face-tooface meetings. Since the lockdown has eased, there have been several outings – the local campsite for archery and outdoor experiences, some walking through the local forestry to understand nature, etc.

As a result, the Group has awarded 5 Chief Scout’s Bronze awards, and 4 Chief Scout’s Silver awards (each is the highest award a Beaver and Cub Scout respectively can gain).

The Group has also invested in much equipment – tents, event shelters, ropes, pioneering poles, and many more “Scout-style” items.

All the outdoor equipment is stored in a 20’ shipping container which acts as the Group’s stores.
