## **BRIDPORT COMMUNITY SHED - TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT 20212022 for Annual General Meeting No2, October 2022**

Throughout the year Bridport Community Shed continued to expand and consolidate the achievements of the previous year. The space we occupy has developed the character of being first and foremost the Bridport Community Shed, while some of it is still also used from time to time by the town council gardeners. Our dedicated volunteers have completed the construction of new storage spaces for raw materials and unfinished work in progress; refurbished the workshop areas to create more work stations and make them safer; and transformed a neglected rubble dump at the back of the site into a large and pleasant deck suitable for multiple uses, with also a small stepped garden area alongside.

Meanwhile growing numbers of people are calling in to the Shed sessions, which are now held regularly on three mornings times a week, as our reputation continues to spread. This has been further enhanced by some excellent external collaborators who have used the Shed to host their own initiatives such as craft workshops and rehearsals for choirs and drama groups. Most notable was the remarkable series of sessions for single mothers to learn how to work with wood, making stools, shelves and other items for their homes.

We have been fortunate to attract sufficient funding from individual and institutional donors to cover our material costs and regular administrative outgoings associated with the site. All capital projects have been completed to schedule and reported to donors, and an adequate balance of flexible funds remains available for discretionary small purchases of tools and equipment.

Our Bridport market stalls have become a more regular occurrence as has the drop-in repair café on Saturdays. We have been periodically invited by others to give talks about the Shed’s work. However, as noted by Trustees last year, we are currently stretching our existing volunteer capacity to its maximum. A priority for the year ahead is to make sure we have enough volunteers with good orientation on how best to support the Shed sessions, and ensure they are adequately trained in health and safety.
