## **Objectives and Activities** 

## **Charitable Purpose:** 

The relief of poverty in low-income areas targeted at people between the ages of 0 and 35 who are living in South Africa, Kenya and Rwanda, by providing grants to charities and other organisations working to relieve poverty for these beneficiaries. 

## **Activities for Public Benefit:** 

In 2024, Rhiza UK continued its mission to support underprivileged communities in South Africa through direct support to our partner, Babuyile Community Development Trust. The main activities involved providing grants, funded through UK charitable giving, to strengthen quality Early Childhood Development, healthcare access, and employment generation initiatives in disadvantaged communities. The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit in planning and delivering all Rhiza UK’s activities. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

## **Summary of Main Achievements:** 

- Distributed three major grants totalling £131,000 to Babuyile Community Development Trust in South Africa (January: £11,000; July: £60,000; July: £60,000), enabling substantial impact in early years education, health delivery, and youth and women’s empowerment. 



- Successfully secured major funding from the HCD Memorial Fund (£25,000) and the Waterloo Foundation (£100,000), alongside interest income. 

- Supported hundreds of children and young people through these community-based programmes. The projects have contributed to making measurable improvements in child development outcomes, health access, and livelihoods among beneficiaries. 

- Maintained careful oversight to ensure funds are delivered effectively and objectives for public benefit are met. 

## **Financial Review** 

## **Key Financials for 2024:** 

- **Balance Brought Forward:** £11,356.03 

- **Income:** £136,433.12 (comprising £25,000 from HCD Memorial Fund, £100,000 from Waterloo Foundation, and £77.09 of interest) 

- **Expenditure:** £131,067.00 (grant payments as above and a foreign payment charge of £67.00) 

- **Year End Balance:** £16,722.15 

## **Reserves Policy:** 

The trustees’ policy is to hold sufficient reserves to cover banking fees and any administrative costs, with the aim of minimising reserves relative to the scale of annual grant-giving. The increased year-end balance reflects timing of grant disbursements and will be allocated to projects in 2025. 

## **Deficits:** 

There are no deficits or outstanding liabilities. 

## **Going Concern:** 

There are no concerns regarding the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern. 

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

- Rhiza UK is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a constitution available from the Charity Commission website. 



- Trustees are appointed for a term of three years by board resolution, considering the skills and experience needed for effective charity governance. 

- The principal address is 18 Ashdown Close, Woking GU22 7PG 

- Trustees serving for the period:

## **Public Benefit:** 

The trustees confirm they have complied with their duty in section 17(5) of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

I report to the trustees on my examinalion of the accounts of the Rhiza UK (the CIO) for the
year ended 31 De￿mber 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 {'the Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the CIO'S accounts carried out under section 145 of
the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions
given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5){bl of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my
atlention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of
