Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group 2023 Annual General Meeting Thursday 17 August 2023 @ 19:00 hrs CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Kim Brook
Thank you for attending our third Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group AGM
Over the course of 14 years, the Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group has undergone a remarkable journey. Starting as the sole breed-specific page on Facebook, we have evolved into a distinctive entity, standing as the sole pig breed in the United Kingdom to have achieved charitable status in England, Wales, and most recently, Scotland.
Throughout this journey, we have seized every opportunity to channel our time and dedication towards supporting not only our cherished breed but also our independent pork producers, breeders, and keepers across the United Kingdom. It's worth noting that our reach extends beyond our own breed, as we attract and assist breeders of diverse pig breeds, a testament to the inclusive nature of the Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group.
Year after year, our commitment has manifested in the form of tangible contributions, unwavering support, and continuous inspiration. Looking back over the past year, I'm humbled by the dedication and time invested by our trustees and volunteers. This Charity is truly exceptional in that our trustees selflessly contribute their time, introducing fresh initiatives and ideas that position us as the most proactive pig organisation in the UK. It's a source of immense pride.
Our financial outlook remains positive – Andrew will provide more details on this matter. Our social media presence boasts a substantial following, a reflection of the engagement and interest we've amassed. Our programs and initiatives serve as concrete evidence that we're forging a brighter future for our breed and bloodlines. In the past year alone, our Genetic Spread allowance has supported 45 various bloodlines across the United Kingdom whereby the OSBPG Charity has donated GBP4,725.00 for this cause, a significant positive outcome.
In the current fiscal year, we have taken the initiative to create a comprehensive pig carcass report that emphasises the remarkable efforts of our independent pork producers in elevating the standards of OSB Pork. The pig carcass report is unique, as no other pedigree pig breed in the UK has undertaken such an initiative.
Through this report, we are proudly showcasing the collaborative achievements of our independent pork producers. The results speak for themselves, illustrating the commendable strides taken to ensure that consumers are increasingly drawn towards local producers. The growing appreciation for provenance is evident as consumers are becoming more attuned to the origins of their food. This shift is a testament to the transparent and dedicated practices upheld by our producers, showcased through their commitment through harnessing impeccable husbandry, biosecurity and the production of top-tier, outdoor-reared pork.
In quantifiable terms, from August 2022 to date our efforts have borne fruit, with a remarkable production recorded at over 15 thousand tonnes of OSB pork. This accomplishment underscores the positive trajectory we are on, emphasising the appeal of our high-quality pork offerings and the resonance they have with conscious consumers. The journey continues as we strive to amplify these achievements and set new benchmarks in the realm of ethical and sustainable pork production.
The breeding initiative program has also demonstrated its value, fostering advancements and better practices within our community. Moreover, our efforts have spurred other breed clubs to adopt a more proactive stance, a testament to our far-reaching influence.
This year, Lisa Corcoran's diligent efforts have been pivotal in exploring various funding opportunities and managing sponsorships. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lisa for her unwavering dedication.
Tracy Crabb a valuable addition to our Charity, providing crucial assistance with IT challenges and offering insightful ideas that have guided our focus towards fruitful avenues.
Lachlan Nisbet's involvement has been marked by his generous contribution of time and guidance. We are truly honoured and appreciative of your commitment.
Andrew O'Shea continues to shine, infusing our Charity with pride and joy through his multifaceted talents. His ceaseless dedication, time investment, and creative prowess are evident in the management of our YouTube channel, podcasts, accounts, website and working together with Christopher Moss , who has unquestionably emerged as an indispensable asset to our charity. His remarkable contributions encompass not only adeptly sourcing and crafting merchandise for our shop 1AGM2023but also extending unwavering assistance whenever required. His presence has infused our team with a revitalising and optimistic spirit. Furthermore, Christopher has played a pivotal role in propelling the advancement of our expanding registry. Your unflagging dedication and hard work does not go unnoticed.
While we bid a fond farewell to Angela Pratt, who served as Secretary for three years, we express our warm wishes and thanks for her unwavering assistance and commitment. We now welcome Jayne Carter into the role of secretary. Jayne, we embrace your arrival and extend our best wishes for your new role. Thank you for taking on this position; we have full confidence in your ability to manage and guide us effectively.
As we reflect on our journey, it's clear that the Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Group's impact is resounding. We stand united, driven by a shared mission and a collective passion for preserving and enhancing our beloved breed. Together, we look ahead with excitement and determination, knowing that each step we take contributes to a brighter future for our breed, our independent pork producers, breeders and keepers.
