In June 2022 an expedition was carried out
to Marolambo, Madagascar, with a focus on
health education including training local
teachers to continue to deliver health
education throughout the year. The
expedition was primarily led by local
Malagasy doctors to facilitate ongoing
leadership of future expeditions. Focus
groups and qualitative educational research
was carried out within the communities to
better understand health and education

successful expedition to Marolambo,
Madagascar. The expedition focussed on
training local teachers to deliver health
education. By this ‘Teach the Teachers’
method, health education will continue to be
delivered throughout the year. This will
ensure that this community, which is known
to have a high health burden due to
Neglected Tropical Diseases, will continue to
benefit from health education throughout the
year.
The expedition was led by local Malagasy
doctors. This represents a successful
transition of team leadership from earlier
expeditions, which were primarily led by UK
team-members. This transition benefits both
the Malagasy doctors involved, giving them
opportunities for experience and career
development, and in addition improves the
