## **Our Aims and Objectives**

## **Purposes and Aims**

The objects of the CIO are, for the benefit of the public, to maintain, improve, promote and preserve the area known as Steetley Meadows and/or such other land in the locality of Ryton for public recreation and leisure, and to conserve, protect and improve the physical and natural environment of the area.

## **Ensuring our work delivers our aims**

Throughout the reporting year the Trustees and volunteers have maintained a programme of maintenance and mowing to ensure that the Meadows have been accessible to all. The maintenance of the meadows is also essential to provide a good environment for wildlife. It has only been possible to hold one open working party because of the Covid restrictions.

## **Annual Review**

The period from October 2020 – September 2021 was challenging for everyone with the constraints of lockdowns and the Covid pandemic. However, the lockdown restrictions enabled village residents and visitors to spend more time outside enjoying the benefits of being in nature.

There has been a significant increase in the number of people enjoying the meadows throughout the year, for exercise and to maintain their wellbeing.

Who has visited Steetley Meadows?

The Meadows attract people of all ages, particularly residents of the village who use it on a regular basis for walking, dog walking and recreation. Visitors from further afield also make use of the Meadows for recreation.

## **Financial Review**

Ryton Conservation Trust has received grant funding from the Parish Council, both to support the maintenance of the Meadows and for the purchase of additional tools and equipment to be used for the Water Meadow which the Trust will maintain in future years. Overall the balance has remained similar to the previous year.

The Trust continues to maintain a robust reserve, for use in case of future purchases of large capital items, such as a tractor.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Ryton Conservation Trust is Charitable Incorporated Organisation, established on 14[th] July 2020. The organisation has a constitution which established the objects and powers of the company and is governed under its provisions. There must be a minimum of three Trustees who manage the affairs of the CIO. All Trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the Trust.

## **Risk Management**

Procedures are in place to ensure the health and safety of trustees, volunteers and visitors to the Meadows. Risk Assessments have been prepared for a range of conservation activities.

## **Responsibilities of the Trustees**

The Trustees are required to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of the affairs of the CIO including its income and expenditure for the financial year. They trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records and safeguarding the assets of the CIO.
