To relieve the emotional, mental and spiritual distress of adult men in need, by reason of sexual abuse, for the public benefit, in particular. those residing in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. by the provision of a welcoming safe space to meet. by the regular weekly provision of professionally led. group therapy and support. Telephone support for friends and families. By extending the provision of professionally led, group therapy and support, and, where appropriale, one-to-one specialist counselling", initially to different areas of Cornwall and now Devon and Somerset. Providing one-to-one, specialist Counselling therapy, for those men who would like to join a support group, but who, because of on-going trauma, are not yet well*nough to safely engage within a group setting. Responding to referrals and self-referrals with a 48-hour period and getting clients in front of a counsellor within 7 to 10 days. No other organization within Cornwall can achieve this and most have waiting lists between 3 to 12 months. Getting io these men early can have a significant effect on their families and communities. Promoting Suicide Awareness amongst men and signposting places of support (Orange Circle) andlor providing counselling and workshops if their challenges are the result of sexual abuse. Section D Achievements and performance Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year Masa has continued to grow the group support in Bodmin, Cornwall and Torbay (Devon) for all men that need support stemming from his own personal sexual abuse, the men that have attended the group sessions have been able to access support from other men that have gone through similar abuse and has been able to get the support that they need to build a normal life. Masa has continued lo secure funds to offer a fully supervised safe environment for the men to meet the access therapy group support. The funds pay for a fully qualified counsellor to oversee each group and keep il a safe place for all. Each group that MASA has opened offers spaces for 6-8 men. Our recently appointed clinical lead has helped MASA to safeguard and maintain the growth of the Charity. Masa has continued to work Glosely with men at high risks of suicidal tendencies in the Devon, Cornwall, somerset and Dorset areas and help them build a practical and effective mental health safety plan. We have also continued lo support these men by still running suicide prevention workshops online for all Masa clients across the counties we work in. This support as now developed into helping the families and friends of the men we support. We are continuing to work with community groups including Comwall pride, The engine room, Volunteer Cornwall," The Anglican Church diocese, Devon Clasps, Cornwall suicide prevention and homeless aGross Cornwall and CN4C Cornwall neighbourhood for change Masa has continued to develop its support in the Cornwall area through offering more 1-2-1 sessions and continuing to grow the group sessions. and expanding its service areas across Comwall. This is also reflected in the Devon and Somerset areas ofthe UK. The office Masa has in Bodmin has become the central hub ofwhat Masa does and offers in the Cornwall area as we are central to all areas of Cornwall and can give more accessible support to the Men Masa works with and their families. Masa has also offered support to other agencies in the Cornwall by offering counselling rooms for their students that are on college placements to do their 100-hour placements in. Masa also offers a placement for a student lo work with MASA clients to gain the experience they need to work with men who have trauma stemming from Male sexLtal abuse. TAR March 2012
