THE DEEPINGS UONS CLUB CIO ICHARtTY NO. 1190372) TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD IstJULY2021 to 30 JUNE 2022 Trustees= Lynne Frances Roberts BSC RN David Robert Turner Michael John Drinkall BScHons Msc Nicola Karen Waldie Anthonyjohn Plunkett Wincent Rodrbey Sterland Thomas Richard Felton e Prestdent Publicity officer Assistant secretsry Data protertion officer Secretary Treasurer Structure and overnance As part of Lions Clubs International we are govemed by a standard Lions Club constitution. in addition to which we have our wrltten poliry on grant making. They are gNen the Charity Commission's public benefit guidan￿ and have regard to this when carrying out their duties. All have DBS cleardnce. Ob-ects activities and achievements The constitutional objects include advan￿ment of citizenship. encouragement of volunteering and service to the community and support for youth development. Our main Service project during this period was the construction of a sensory garden in The Deepings Community Centre. Thi5 was carried out Wtth guidance from Sense, the National charity for people with complex disabilities, which has a family eentre and residential homes in The Deepings. and with contributions from and participation of charities, local authorities and businesses in the area. A play area was built with features designed to be enjoyed by children with visual impairment. raised beds were built and planted with herbs and fruit as well as flowers, and a quiet area with an arbourwas developed. all in underused part of the Community Centre'5 garden which first had to be cleared of overgrown vegetation and rubbish. The iarden was fonnally opened on 14 May 2022 and has subsequently been developed further. In September 2021 we held a SU￿SSFul gleaning event in which we gathered donations of excess produce from gardens and allotments and shared them between local care homes. We were again unable to hold our fund raising duck race. nom)alty held on the first Sunday in September, because it was rkot prartical to adapt the event to meet the remaining Covid restrictions and precautions. We organise the annual Deeping5 carnival. supported by grants from the 2 parish councils and this year from Deeping St James United Charities. This yearfs carnival was to be a communty event for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, but torrential rain on caused it to be cancelled. The grants received will be held over for the 2023 carnival. Our main fund-raisin8 activity was the Santa sleigh collections carried out in partnership with The Deepings Rotary Club. The collertions were again done a5 street collections rather than door-to-door, partly because of the continuing need to take precautions against Covid and partly because our area has grown so much we can no longer afford the time to knock on doors if we want to complete the nightly rounds in a reasonable time. We think it important to tour the whole area because seeing Santa in his illuminated musical sleigh is popular with families. We contributed money to the Lions Clubs Intemational Foundation's help for victims of natural disasters and of the war in Ukraine, and made grants localty to Scouts and youth football teams among others. Financial review Reserves are held available for immed￿te use. No funds are in deficit. Annual accounts have been submitted. Approved by the trustees and signed on their behalf by L J. Plunkett on 18 April 2023
