Trustees Annual Report for Muslims Against Antisemitism (July 202031/03/2021)
This period of activities covered the second quarter of ‘lockdown’ during the Coronavirus pandemic. As part of activities, Muslims Against Antisemitism (MAAS), carried out 3 online campaigns aimed at raising awareness around antisemitism within British Muslim communities. These campaigns looked at:
-
The language of antisemitism,
-
The Holocaust and its importance for all communities,
-
How discourse around the Middle East conflict must not include antisemitic rhetoric.
The 3 campaigns reached to out over 374,000 people online and were conducted through Twitter and Facebook with specific graphics and themes promoted within each of the campaigns. The campaigns were run over the month of September and in-kind support around the social media activities were provided to MAAS.
The campaigns were run at the time to counter online divisions stoked up due to issues in the Middle East due to the Israel and Palestine conflict.
MAAS also took part in 2 further online campaigns with the group – Countering Antisemitism, where we highlighted public information about the history of Jewish communities in Europe pre-the Second World War. These campaigns included the dissemination of infographics about populations in European countries, cultural elements and the unique nature of Jewish communities pre-1934, when structural elements of Jewish persecution started to be implemented by the Nazis.
Lastly, MAAS also held two webinars during this period of time that included:
-
The history of Islamist antisemitism and its spread.
-
Extremist groups, their antisemitic rhetoric and risks to Jewish communities.
These were both attended by around 220 people in total.
Face to face activities were unable to be conducted due to the ongoing pandemic.
NOTE: Due to no income and expenditure – there are no accounts to be presented for this period.
