## **Meetings**

Since April 2021 the trustees have met regularly to work on the development of the charity.

## **Registrations**

This year we have registered with Give as You Live so that our supporters can donate or raise money for the charity whilst shopping. We have also registered the charity at Amazon Smile.

## **SKAPA at HatFair 2021**

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

In July of 2021 the charity staged an intervention at the Hat Fair in Winchester. Thanks to Kathy Hulme and John Broadbent of the Glimmer for their contribution. Prior to attendance at the Hat Fair and in order to publicise the charity we produced a leaflet and lapel badges. We have set up a Grant Funding Co-ordination Team in order to provide oversight on funding application and to reduce the likelihood of duplication of effort. We continue to work on developing “Friends of SKAPA”.

**AGM** Our Annual General Meeting at the Roots and Shoots charity was well attended and an ideas bank generated.

We are investigating a Winchester venue for arranging small-scale live events.

## **Resignations and Appointments**

During the year, several trustees were asked to confirm whether they wished to remain on the board as they had not attended meetings regularly or otherwise contributed to the running of the charity. We subsequently accepted the resignation of three trustees. Following these resignations, we welcomed the appointment of Karina Townsend to the SKAPA trustee board. We now have a board of twelve committed trustees which we consider to be an appropriate number.

## **Extraordinary Meetings**

Towards the end of 2021 we organised two Extraordinary Meetings, both with outside parties. The meetings were organised with the aim of receiving advice as to how best to further our charitable objectives.

Roney Fraser-Monroe (poet and performance artist with considerable experience in charitable funding) advised that we develop short, medium, and long-term plans for the charity.

We also met with Edmund Baxter, CEO at ResonanceFM and a former close friend of Simon King in memory of whom the charity was founded. He advised us to reduce the number of trustees and to recruit patrons. We followed Ed’s advice and the trustees now number one dozen following three resignations and one new appointment.

We are also happy to welcome four patrons to SKAPA, these are Atsuko Kamura, Dominik Scherrer, Tim Hodgkinson, and Lea Anderson. We continue to seek new patrons in order that we can better represent all performing arts expressions.

We are working on compiling a database of performing arts venues and organisations with the intention of creating a touring network. We are compiling a database of charities and other organisations with whom we would like to work.

We continue to work on a fundraising application with three core objectives: to fund the employment of a Project Manager, to finance the development of a live project, and to define a “brand identity” for charity.

All trustees have been issued with a copy of Charity Commission Guidance document PB1, Public benefit, the public benefit requirement.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

Thanks to John Broadbent and Kathy Hulme of the Glimmer for their contribution to the SKAPA presence at Winchester Hat Fair.

Thanks also to Howard Jacobs (trustee), Gilli Peter (trustee) and Jon Broadbent (volunteer) in helping to clear and then sell belongings of Simon which had been held in storage by Simon’s family following his death.

- contribution made by volunteers.
