## **Charity Accomplishments**

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The charity continues to raise awareness of the impact of domestic abuse through multiple channels, including social media campaigns, public speaking engagements, and training events. Over the past year, we have successfully expanded our efforts to educate and inform the public, professionals, and policymakers on the long-term effects of domestic abuse and the urgent need for improved support services.

## **In the last 12 months, we have:**

_**- Supported University of Birmingham Students:**_ We continue to provide placement opportunities for up to ten students annually, offering them valuable experience in a charitable organisation for domestic abuse support and advocacy. These students undertake a 40-hour placement at the start of their academic year (typically September), equipping them with the skills and knowledge to support survivors effectively.

## _**- Raised Awareness and Secured Funds through a**_

_**Successful Fundraiser:**_ This past year, we organised a targeted fundraising campaign to generate essential funds to sustain the charity. This effort not only helped secure financial support to ensure our charity continues for another year, but also strengthened our visibility and community engagement in tackling domestic abuse.

_**- Contributed to National Policy and Advocacy:**_ We are proud to have played a role in shaping discussions and influencing policy change.

- Our charity contributed to the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Report Shifting the Scales 2025, which aims to improve criminal justice service responses and victim support nationwide.

- Through our advocacy work, we have made formal recommendations to change the threshold for Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs) to ensure Domestic AbuseRelated Deaths are also included. This change would ensure a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of domestic abuse and improve the national response to such tragedies.

- Maintained and Adapted Service Provision. We continue to offer vital support to our beneficiaries, adapting our service delivery to a hybrid model of face-to-face and virtual sessions to ensure accessibility for all, particularly in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

- Our commitment to supporting beneficiaries remains strong, and we continue to offer structured placement opportunities for University of Birmingham students.

## **Continued Influence on Domestic Abuse Legislation and Public Awareness:**

Our charity remains actively engaged to advocate for improved police investigations into Domestic Abuse and Domestic Homicides and broader legislative reform. Through these collaborations, we strive to push for systemic changes that prioritise victim safety and accountability for perpetrators.

We have upheld our reputation as a grass roots organisation in 6 March **2012** raising public awareness and promoting education on domestic abuse. Our training programmes and public speaking

**Section E                    Financial review**

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

Please see attached Charity Reserves Policy

## **Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

The charity maintains a **reserves policy** to ensure financial stability and the continued delivery of its services. Given the financial challenges faced, our approach is to retain sufficient unrestricted reserves to cover essential operating costs and unexpected financial pressures.

## Our policy aims to:

- Provide a financial buffer to sustain operations during periods of funding uncertainty.

- Ensure the charity can meet its **short-term obligations** , including service delivery and staff or volunteer support.

- Support strategic development and future sustainability, allowing the charity to continue raising awareness, training professionals, and advocating for policy change in relation to domestic abuse.

- Continue with fundraising events to generate income. The next planned Fundraiser is the CEO Sleepout in March 25.

- Expenditure so far has ensured the charity remains afloat and can continue to run for 24-25.

The trustees regularly review the reserves level to ensure it aligns with the charity’s financial position and ongoing commitments. While financial constraints remain a challenge, we continue to seek funding opportunities and fundraising initiatives to strengthen our reserves and ensure the long-term impact of our work.
