Governance
Diggle Community Brass is a constituted CIO. Our trustees are appointed by the membership, annually at the AGM. All trustees are volunteers, following Charity Commission guidelines for direction and development.
Objects
Our objects are to promote, improve, develop and maintain education and appreciation of brass band music, for the public benefit, in all its aspects, by the presentation of public brass band concerts and events, tuition in the playing of brass instruments and by other such means as the Band, through its Committee, shall determine from time to time.
All Trustees will be advised to reacquaint themselves with this guidance. To be confirmed and minuted at the next Trustees meeting.
Main activities
The band has seen a period of transition over the last nine months as the resident Musical Director resigned his position in November 2024. A new MD agreed to take control in June 2025 and has brought a new dimension to the band. The number of active players has remained broadly static but continues to welcome players with additional needs in line with its stated inclusivity aims. The band has undertaken local concerts, Remembrance event, seasonal outdoor playing including providing music at religious events and, in June 2025, participation in Whit Friday processions, services and contests.
Our development group, featuring primary school age players, was shelved in Sept 2024 due to the members moving onto secondary education. The band is exploring link up with schools further afield with a view to restarting a training group early in 2026.
Achievements and performance
Performances gave benefit both to players and event supporters, fulfilling personal enjoyment and recreation needs, besides large numbers comprising the audiences who obtained cultural enjoyment and enhanced well-being.
In March 2025, several members of the band travelled to Belgium to participate in a workshop event with Willebroek Band.
In June 2025 we were able to participate fully in the Whit Friday celebrations which are fundamental to our local heritage. It was an additional stage for the band and its new identity, besides an opening for new and developing players to experience belonging and community engagement. The band facilitated a number of players from Belgium to join the band to further education of the local event in Europe.
The new players attracted during 2024 continue to improve and are now regular attendees at rehearsals, and some have indicated their intention to become involved in management of the band.
The player swap contact group with other local bands in the area, continues to allow provision for all bands to perform concerts and field full bands at events.
Attempting to preserve and expand the engagement of this group and to add further recruits will be one of the Band's future challenges.
Financial review
The band continues to aim to cover it’s basic running costs and continues to generate income through fundraising to further its objects.
Declaration
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’
