|Contribution made by<br>volunteers|Para 1.38|**The trustees, other members and**<br>**volunteers have contributed their time and**<br>**expertise to maintain good management of**<br>**the association and activity costs to a**<br>**minimum.**<br>**On average, the trustees give 20 hours of**<br>**volunteer time each month to cover tasks**<br>**such as liaising with other charities,**<br>**attending Association and multi-agency**<br>**meetings (e.g., Kent IPAG) to share**<br>**expertise. In addition, trustees give 200**<br>**hours per annum in organising and running**<br>**activities and raising funds.**<br>**The trustees extend their gratitude to all**<br>**volunteers for their contributions,**<br>**without which some of the activities**<br>**would not have been possible.**|

The**<br>**Association’s customary cultural feast,**<br>**which is usually shared after the**<br>**Thanksgiving Service to celebrate Black**<br>**History Month and BME culture, could not**<br>**take place because of social distancing**<br>**rules.**<br>**The Annual Thanksgiving Service**<br>**celebrates our cultural diversity and**<br>**inclusion during Black History Month.**<br>**Members welcome people of all races and**<br>**tribes, regardless of personal background**<br>**or circumstances, faith or gender.**|

**In partnership with Empowering Young Minds charity, the association commenced planning for a Financial Literacy Programme for young people of BME descent who are aged between 18 and 25 years to be held in June 2022. Feedback from this activity will be reported on in the next financial year. The Financial Literacy Programme benefit young people by developing their money management and life skills including digital safety and provide opportunities for young people to volunteer in the association’s programmes in future.**

## **Independent Examiners’ Report to the Trustees of Black History Association (Gravesham & Kent)** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Black History Association (Gravesham & Kent) for the year ended 31[st] March 2022. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees of the Association, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

I report in respect of our examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. 

In connection with my examination, I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
